Shanghai’s Third Airport is Coming to Nantong

Shanghai’s " Third Airport," Nantong New Airport, has unveiled its plans. With a total investment of RMB 50 billion, it will be 160,000 ㎡larger than Hongqiao Airport. It also boasts the highest 4F flight level, which has caught the attention of many in the city.
The Shanghai Group will work with the Nantong Municipal Government to build the Nantong New Airport.
Shanghai Airport Group will hold 100% ownership of the airport and be solely responsible for the construction and management of the project.
The airport is built at the junction of Haimen District and Tongzhou District, Nantong, Jiangsu.

The airport is located in Erjia Town, Tongzhou, and covers approximately 670,000 ㎡, with a total investment of RMB 50 billion.
The airport will install two runways and 70 boarding gates.
4F, Highest Flight-Level with a 90 million Throughput
The throughput of the first phase is estimated to be 49 million, and the mid-to-long-term passenger flow is expected to reach 90 million.
The highest flight-level is 4F.
The First Phase is Expected to Be Completed in 2025.
Shanghai will Become the Only City with Three International Airports in China.
Shanghai will join New York, Moscow, Paris, and London as one among the few cities worldwide with three international airports.
JFK Airport
New York: There are three airports, namely JFK Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Airport.
Moscow: There are three airports,namely SVO Airport, DME Airport and VKO Airport.
Paris: There are three airports, namely CDG Airport, ORY Airport and BVA Airport.
London: There are five airports, namely LHR Airport, LGW Airport, STN Airport, LTN Airport, LCY Airport.
The development of Shanghai’s rail transit system is tremendous.
The total construction area of the Shanghai East Railway Station is about 3 million ㎡, which includes 7 terminals, 8 runways, 22+8 high-speed lines, and 4 rail transits.
It is located 4 km away from Pudong Airport and is the second-largest railway passenger station in Shanghai.
The 0.88 square km Shanghai East Railway Station will be the first to start construction in 2021 and is expected to be operational by 2024.
Songjiang South Station- Shanghai's Third Largest Railway Hub
In 2010, Songjiang South Railway Station was identified as the first stop of the "Shanghai-Suhu High-speed Railway."

The total project area is 1.3 million ㎡, and there will be an expansion from the current 2 sets of 4 lines to 9 sets of 23 lines. The average annual passenger flow is expected to exceed 20 million. The Songjiang South Station Hub will become Shanghai's third-largest high-speed railway station.
The project will build three new intercity railways and multiple new subways.
The route will mainly cover Nanhui, Fengxian, Jinshan, Qingpu, and Lingang.

The planned route will cover the distance from Pudong Transportation Hub to Lingang New Area and Nanhui New City.

From Lingang New Area to Fengjing Town in Jinshan District, the total length is about 93 km, with an estimated investment of RMB 28 billion.
Shanghai Fengxian Line
The total length is about 37 km, with an estimated investment of RMB 15 billion, and the average distance between each station is over 3 km.
Jinshan to Pinghu Line

Starting from Jinshanwei Station to Haiyan County, the total length is about 51 km, and the estimated investment is RMB 11.7 billion.
Shanghai Chongming Line

Chongming Line will be the main line connecting Shanghai and Chongming Island.
The Shanghai-Shenzhen-Guangzhou high-speed maglev train will also debut.

The planned route will be Shanghai-Shantou-Shantou-Shenzhen-Guangzhou, which is expected to be connected to Hong Kong Kowloon Station.
The distance between Shanghai and Guangzhou is about 1,600 km and can be reached within 3 hours, and it only takes 2.5 hours to reach Shenzhen.
The Shanghai (Shenzhen)-Guangzhou high-speed maglev train and the Shanghai-Hangzhou maglev train are China’s only two 600 km high-speed maglev trains.
With a total investment of RMB 100 billion, the one-way journey from Shanghai to Hangzhou will only take 20 minutes after project completion.
The project will also extend 6 subways with 22 additional new stations, and the extension spans a total of 57 km.
Towards the end of last year, in the latest report by the International Air Transport Association, Shanghai has replaced London as the world’s largest aviation hub.
