Shanghai Now Has Three High Line Parks
In 1980 in Manhattan, New York City, an old railway running for 50 years was abandoned and was requested by residents to be demolished.
Fortunately, the railway has been preserved under the protection of New York City’s Friends of the High Line (FHL) organization.
In 2009, the railway became a sky garden corridor and returned as The High Line.
It runs directly from New York City's Meatpacking District to 30th Street in Manhattan's West Side, and the classic space has taken on a new look.

Today, Shanghai has also come up with not one but three versions of its own "The High Line."
Baixi Park is a multi-purpose space for art, sports, and park visits. Baoshan Xingkong High Line Park has the first 3D printed bridge in China. The "Second Ground" on the West Bank occupies 46,000 ㎡and is located by the Huangpu River.

In the second half of 2021, Shanghai's once "longest food market" is back as the Baixi Park, Shanghai’s version of the High Line Park.

The sky park is about 1 km long.
It spans three floors, with the underground art gallery, ground floor, and level above ground.
It combines various functions such as art, sports, and parks in one space.
The K1 floor is located at the north and south ends of Baixi Park and is a semi-underground art gallery.
The K2 floor is an open corridor for leisure activities, with basketball courts, leisure stations, and other spaces inside.
The top floor is the K3 high line trail, and it is as high as the second floor of a standard residential building.

Baixi Park used to be a part of the freight railway. The sunshade keeps the original roof design of the railway station platform.
A section of the old wall of the food market has also been preserved and recreated to form one of the urban art landscapes.
The park has changed the lives of residents here and also became a new popular spot in Shanghai.

The First Sky Park in Shanghai
The first high-line park opened to the public in Shanghai is not Baixi Park, but Xingkong High Line Park.
Xingkong High Line Park opened a week earlier than Baixi Park and is located in Baoshan.
It was formerly the port for Shanghai’s Loading and Transportation Corporation.
Now, it has been transformed into a high-altitude waterside park.
The huge gantry cranes and the meandering overhead viaduct form the main body of the Xingkong High Line Park.
The 520 m long aerial bridge connects the suspending towers ingeniously along a river.
If the scenery during the day is not enough, be sure to catch the stunning views at night.
At night, colorful lights are turned on, illuminating the entire space.
Beautiful water flows can be seen on both sides.
There are also scenic spots such as the Cello Observation Deck, Guqin Lake, 3D Printed Folding Bridge, Music Fountain Square, etc.

It is the first 3D printed folding bridge in China, and it can retract and fold.
In addition, there are colorful "box spaces" transformed from containers, the country's first container Starbucks, a multi-functional stage, and more.

The "Second Ground" on the West Bank is a newly designed sky garden in the city, which has not yet been officially opened.
