Puxi’s First Morning During Lockdown
On April 1, Puxi entered a lockdown after Pudong. The lively roads are now empty again, as the city’s residents begin another round of quarantine.
That day, we set off again to take the first shot of dawn in the deserted Puxi .

Looking at the familiar Bund area, Huaihai Road, and West Nanjing Road, it seems as though a pause button was hit as the city looked like a ghost town.
We hope that the pandemic will end as soon as possible, and the city will recover and return to its former vibrant self.
That night was set to be recorded in history.
Usually before dawn, the North-South Elevated Road in Shanghai is packed.
And now, the city filled with skyscrapers is like a dragon in sleep.
As the sun rises, we were greeted with a new wave of stillness and silence.
The liveliness of West Nanjing Road and Middle Huaihai Road disappeared overnight, leaving only a quiet building complex.
From a distance, the city seemed to have come to a standstill.
Usually, there are people rushing around at the Bund, but it became quiet all of a sudden.
Green trees with new leaves were blooming by the roadside, but there was no one to appreciate it.
Looking in from the entrance of Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, the iconic Peace Hotel was still eye-catching.
There are usually people around but that morning it looked like an empty Legoland.
The entrance of Shanghai New World Daimaru and No.1 Shopping Center was empty that day.
The big screen was silent with no advertisements on.
Shanghai Workers Cultural Palace was silent, too. And the number "1929" on the building felt as though we had traveled through time.
The passers-by disappeared, leaving only the empty streets.
East Beijing Road, famous for its bungalows, saw a sparse crowd.
The century-old Shamei Building, which reopened to the public last year, still looked beautiful.
The delis and the old grocery stores on the side had their shutter doors pulled down.
On Dianchi Road, people wearing white protective clothing had started a new day of pandemic prevention work.
The Oriental Pearl Tower could be seen standing in the distance.
Residential areas near Changping Road in Jing'an District regained their former peace and quietness.
An important landmark on North Sichuan Road - Shanghai Post Office Museum sat quietly by the Suzhou River, and the cherry blossoms by the river bank were blooming quietly.
The stillness and silence in Shanghai will last for at least 4 days. At this moment, residents at home are missing the hustle and bustle, and vibrant city life. Hope soon we’ll get the normal life back again.
