Shanghai Will Implement Venue Code for Entering Key Sites
Could Be Held Legally Accountable by Refusing to Scan
Starting from April 5, Shanghai will implement a “venue code” and an all-in-one machine for health checks citywide as a new measure to better monitor the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents will be required to scan the venue code to enter key sites in the city, including schools, residential compounds, commercial complexes, food markets, shopping malls, supermarkets, theaters, public facilities, bars and restaurants, hotels, gyms, tourist attractions, parks, places for religious activities, medical institutions, factories and enterprises, long-haul bus stations, airports, etc.
The venue code is required to be prominently placed at the entrance. Citizens could scan through Suishenban (随申办), WeChat or Alipay; Or show the health code to the machine. For special groups such as the elderly and children without smartphones, manual information registration measures are reserved.
Citizens who refuse to scan the code and cause the spread of the epidemic or create a risk of spread, will be be held accountable in accordance with the law.
