A music festival on a cruise ship is coming this summer
It was probably only a matter of time really, but this summer we're getting the Wavey Music Festival, a celebration of electronic music that comes with the unique selling point of being all at sea. The festival is promising 60 international and Chinese DJs all on board a cruise ship heading from Shanghai to Busan, South Korea and back.
It's not been confirmed who will be on the decks on deck yet, but organisers are promising to bring aboard DJs who rank in the all-important DJ Mag Top 100 and Resident Advisor Top 100 lists. Plus they say there'll be a spa, a pool and hot tubs, a mini golf course, an ice skating rink, a climbing wall and a gym. Oh, and a casino. It's a bit fancier than your standard Huangpu ferry, basically.

The party will set sail on Wednesday 24 August and get you back to Shanghai on Sunday 28. You probably want to book a couple of recovery days off of work after that though. Cabins start from 3,999RMB for a bed in a four person room and go up to 99,999RMB if you want to grab the owner's suite. Get in touch on info@waveyfestival.com to snap up that bargain, or to book one of the cheaper tickets.
We don't have many more details at the moment, but fingers crossed it'll be like those Kid Rock cruises. Here's a sample from a GQ piece on those from a few years ago:
'There are enormous sunburned men with motion-sickness patches behind their ears shouting out, "I'm on a boat, motherfucker!" Two women are carrying around an inflatable man with a giant dong sticking out. There are games of flip cup and cornhole in progress. There are joints being fired up all over the place. There are buckets upon buckets of cold ones dotting the deck.'
If that sounds like your idea of fun, keep an eye on our blog - we'll have more details next week. For now, you can start looking for that perfect sailors outfit on Taobao.
