Overclocking

Until Friday 9, Goethe Institute, Free

Closing this week is the immersive exhibition Overclocking, in which Beijing-born artist Tian Xiaolei has created three virtual reality games for the audience. The show is the first in a series of exhibitions curated by Rebecca Catching and featuring artists from East Asia exploring topics related to post-humanism.


Elsewhere, the 11th Biennale's extraordinary main exhibition continues at The Power Station of Art for just 20RMB.

Sweatshop Final Bow: Stamina MC

As the underground club pulls out all the stops before its NYE finale, drum and bass crew Sweatshop are in for a final bow at The Shelter with iconic vocalist Stamina MC topping a huge bill of supporting talent: Arkaik, Cursed, Dave Own, Daniel Power, Monk, Resinate, Roo and of course Siesta. Also at the Yongfu Lu club this weekend is Void's final Shelter outing featuring Ceephax Acid Crew (live) on Saturday night.

Burn the Floor

Featuring several alumni of Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, this epic dance show has performed in over 130 countries around the world, including on Broadway in New York and the West End in London. Le Baron x Shanghai Supperclub Charity Family Christmas Dinner

From the success of their first Family Christmas Dinner last year, Shanghai Supperclub and Le Baron Shanghai have once again teamed up to raise money for The Library Project, a charity organization that builds and donates libraries to primary schools and orphanages in rural China. Renowned chefs Austin Hu and Pol Garcia will cook a full Christmas feast served in a magical winter wonderland setting with a program of music and entertainment throughout the event.

T.O.W + The Molds

This week, two top Beijing acts hit Shanghai as Yang Fan (of Hang on the Box and Ourself Beside Me) has teamed up with Liu Ge (of The Molds) for the experimental duo T.O.W, making their Shanghai debut as part of this show with Liu's garage rock band and Shanghai's own Nonplus of Color.


Elsewhere, brilliant Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna performs at On Stage this Thursday.

ThinkAdoption Chinese designer fashion pop-up

Until Monday 12, 118 Nanchang Lu, Free

ThinkAdoption have opened up a pop-up shop featuring a range of last season's items from Chinese fashion designers at up to 70 percent off. Through the rescue's idea of 'Chinese designers support Chinese mongrels', the pop-up will benefit ThinkAdoption's efforts to help rescue the many homeless mixed-breed dogs who often go ignored. Supporting brands include Echo Cao, KAY GUO, KunManMa, Jenny Lam, Peony Rice, Rachelle Jim, {eco&more}, ZUNY, ToBoo and abstract painter Jeremy Browning.

Mike Ward at Shanghai Comedy Club

Thursday 8, The Pearl, From 180RMB

Named one of the 25 best comics of all time by Montreal's Just For Laughs Festival, Mike Ward has been featured on HBO, Comedy Central, Comedy Channel and Comedy Network. In 2015 he took-over hosting duties of The Nasty Show, the Just For Laughs festival’s longest running and most popular event.


Elsewhere, the Christmas markets continue this week with the German Christkindlmarkt bringing festive cheer to Tonglefang in the heart of Jingan on Saturday and Sunday.
