Cotton Club is closing (but hopefully not for long)

2017-03-21 Tom Clark TimeOutShanghai

The rolling stone of Shanghai's openings and closures brings with it one of the latter today. Fun-loving Fuxing Lu jazz club Cotton Club has announced it's hosting its final show this Saturday 25 March.

Owner Greg Smith told us the reason for closing is because their building lease is up and can't be renewed. But he said they're planning on re-opening before long. 'We have a line on a couple of places but nothing is fixed,' Smith told us. 'We hope to [be] open in the summer.'

Open since 1998, the smoky venue is a long-time Shanghai favourite for its laid-back nights of blues, soul and rock 'n' roll.

As for what they'll be doing this week? Smith says, 'We will carry on musically this week as we always do.' We recommend booking a slot in your week for one last 'Chain of Fools' with Smith and the band.
