This season's coolest sandals for men and women

A decent pair of sandals are a must if you want to leave your house during the Shanghai summer. And – lucky us – sandals are hot this summer. But where to find them? We did some window shopping to bring you this overview of our favourite summer sandals for this year. Get a pedicure, get your toes out and live your best life, people!

Dr Martens has a range of comfortable yet trendy sandals for both men and women – they're durable too, as one might expect from a brand made iconic by their sturdy footwear. Jelly Sandal, American Apparel

Rubber shoes – yes, the ones you wore to hit up the beach as a kiddo – are back. We stumbled upon these brightly coloured and transparent ones (329RMB) from American Apparel on Taobao (but possibly a fake version, considering the company essentially shut down in January) and we love 'em. Who fancies looking like a giant toddler?

Milano Sandal, Birkenstock

If comfort is what you're looking for, you can't go wrong with sandals from iconic (and newly fashionable) European shoe brand Birkenstock. We like this no-fuss Milano sandal (500RMB), which comes in several natural colours. If basic models and colours are just too boring for you, Birkenstock has launched some more quirky lines as well: think solid footbed meets Mickey Mouse, panther prints and snake-leather straps. The best way to get your Birkenstocks is to order online via the international website, but take into account a 105RMB shipping fee.

Fake snake leather sandals, Zara

We love this elegant pair (199RMB) of sandals both for their bargain price and easy, simple styling – they also come in black and white. Don't sleep on the Spanish chain, as Zara offers countless different sandals for women with or without heels, straps, feathers or fuss. Men don't have to go barefoot either, as Zara has a range of sandals and flip flops to choose from.

We're really into these bold sandals for women (159RMB) and we're pretty sure they'll be comfy during a walk around town on a hot day. Try them on at one of the Urban Revivo shops around town, or order online through Tmall for the possibility of some great discounts.

Leather Sandals, H&M

These genuine leather sandals for men (399RMB) are a bargain. When it comes to sandals, H&M offers plenty of cute looking and affordable options for both women and men.

These metallic bargains (312RMB) look good with anything really. You'll find them on ASOS, but be warned, it's hard to pick from the range on offer this online shopping heaven.

Jacala Mag Sandals, Clarks

These sporty men's sandals (750RMB) are great for all-day comfort, and are just as suitable for city life as they are for a walk through nature. Clarks offers solid sandals for both men and women in different styles, varying from casual walk-the-dog pairs to more dressy ones with heels for women. We especially like the Sienna Sun sandals for women, which come in various prints and colours and cost around 650RMB.

An endless list of sandals pops up when you search on Taobao and they're all cheap as chips. Now that's how we like to do our shopping! We're quite partial to these unisex black and white bold sandals(48RMB).

Slip-on Leather Loafers, COS

Slip-on leather loafers are hot (in the best possible way) this summer and we can't wait to get ourselves a pair. We especially like these Scandinavian 'less is more' ones (1,035RMB), but if you're in agreement you'll have to go to the shop at Parkview Green, because COS doesn't ship to China.

Laminated Heel Sandals, Pull&Bear

These chic, Mod-inspired heels (299RMB) are a real find. We love the black and silver ones, but they also come in other colours. You can order them online or try them on in store.
