Catch Joan Cornellà's first solo Mainland China show at M50
Spanish illustrator, cartoonist and artist Joan Cornellà, best known for his dark and surreal comedic comic strips is bringing his first ever solo Mainland China show to M50.
A man with more than 4.5 million fans on Facebook and 1.4 million followers on Instagram, his work has gained a huge social media following that has allowed him to grow from producing humble comic strips to having his work displayed in galleries all over the world, recently taking Asia by storm with shows in Bangkok, Hong Kong and now Shanghai.
While appearing light-hearted and innocent thanks to the inclusion of bright pastel colours and smiling white-toothed protagonists, Cornellà's work is actually very dark and morbid, often featuring images of murder, cannibalism and amputation. However, it still manages to remain both thought-provoking and incredibly entertaining through the use of brilliant black humour and strong social satire.
Joan Cornellà: A Shanghai Solo Exhibition at M50 Art Space Number 104, 50 Moganshan Road. Until Sun 25. 50RMB.
