Red Town's On Stage to close this weekend
The JZ group's Red Town music venue On Stage has been forced to shutter ahead of schedule, with the last show due to take place this weekend.
News emerged earlier this year that the Red Town area - which features a sculpture park, a pleasant grassy area that's popular with families and an array of galleries and small businesses - was set to be 'redeveloped' (which probably means we're getting yet another identikit shopping mall or housing development).
On Stage was hoping to stick it out for at least few more weeks, with shows booked into August, but an announcement on their WeChat account on Saturday stated that they would now be shuttering on Sunday 2 July.
'We had planned to remain open until the end of August, but those plans have now been shattered,' read the statement. 'There's no time to arrange a goodbye show, so every performance between now and July 2 will be a farewell event.'
The statement also apologised to organisers and bands who had already booked shows at the venue, saying that there was nothing to do but either find a new livehouse or cancel the gigs.
There has been talk of the JZ group looking for a new home for On Stage - with Found 158 a possible eventual location - but so far there has been no public confirmation of such plans. As it stands, the final show for the Red Town incarnation of On Stage will be Anhui rapper P.O.E.'s EP release party on Saturday 1.
