Newly opened BUCO has some of the best gelato in town
Just in time for the meltiest part of the year, Gemma Italian eatery has unveiled its downright delicious gelato brand BUCO, currently at home in a little pop-out window beside the Donghu Lu restaurant.
Gelato master Salvatore Naselli
Helmed by Italian gelato master Salvatore Naselli – who flew in from Italy to train the chefs and perfect the recipes – BUCO has what’s probably the most legit gelato on offer in Shanghai (dare we say authentic?). Plus, 25RMB per scoop or 40RMB for two are prices you can live with for quality treats.
Pistachio and hazelnut gelato
The team imports top-notch ingredients from Europe (pistachios, fruit jams, hazelnuts, chocolate and the like) and swirls them together with a Carpigiani gelato maker – which they say is ‘the Ferrari of gelato machines’ – to make for some of the creamiest gelato in town.
Don’t miss the real pistachio or baccio (hazelnut and chocolate), nor the blueberry and fig sorbets. Or the straciatella – basically, just try them all. And while you’re at it, sip on Gemma’s frozen Aperol spritz; yet another delicious treat concocted by Naselli during his Shanghai visit.
