Cycling now banned on 124 Shanghai roads
Good news for motorists and bad news for cyclists: Even more roads in Shanghai are now closed to non-motorised vehicles (bicycles, basically), taking the total up to 124.
Looking at the updated Shanghai cycling map below, it's mostly popular tourist spots around People's Square and Lujiazui, including the Oriental Pearl Tower banning cycling completely. Road signs will be put up to inform cyclists of the new non-cycling zones. The red lines represent roads that are affected (yes, ALL those red lines), while the yellow lines represent one-way lanes. Busy roads where cycling is prohibited include Beijing Dong Lu, Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu, Changhshu Lu, Huashan Lu, Changle Lu and Nanjing Xi Lu.
It's time to brace ourselves for an even more congested metro system with many frustrated cyclists set to add to the rush hour melee.
