Kathleen's Waitan forced to close at the end of the month

Sebastian Morgan TimeOutShanghai 2019-04-11

The sun is setting on one of Shanghai’s finest views. After years of serving up signature cocktails and global cuisine against the backdrop of the Pudong skyline, Kathleen’s Waitan has been ordered to close before the end of the month, as the property is being reclaimed by local authorities. Operations will cease in two weeks, with its last hurrah on Saturday 23 September.

Opening in 2013, Kathleen's Waitan was owner Kathleen Lau’s fifth dining venture into the city, and has built up a reputation for having one of the best views in Shanghai.

Kathleen's Waitan's sunset vistas will obviously be missed, but it’s not all swan songs and farewells. If you find yourself looking for riverside dining options, you can hop the Huangpu and check out Lau's incoming restaurant on Fucheng Lu, Kathleen's Bistro.

Described by Lau as 'the flagship' of the team's new concept, Kathleen’s Bistro will offer a 'smaller, brighter, and more casual' Pudong-side dining experience. The Bistro is set to open its doors against The Bund backdrop in November.

But a tipple overlooking Pudong's towers is what makes Shanghai, well, Shanghai, so be sure to stop by Kathleen’s Waitan for a farewell cocktail before it closes later this month.
