Shanghai ranked fifth safest megacity for women
Shanghai has ranked as the fifth safest megacity for women in the world according to a new poll conducted by the Thomas Reuters Foundation analysing 19 of the world’s biggest megacities based on safety for women.
The poll, titled ‘The world’s most dangerous megacities for women 2017’, asked 20 women’s issue experts in each of the cities to answer questions about how safe life is for women looking at four categories: Sexual Violence, Access to Healthcare, Cultural Practices and Economic Opportunities.
While the study classed Shanghai as the fifth safest city for women overall – following London, Tokyo, Paris and Moscow in first to fourth places, respectively – it ranked second best for economic opportunities, third for safety against sexual violence, fourth in terms of access to health care, and eighth for cultural practices.
Of the other cities surveyed, Cairo was considered to be the most dangerous city for women, followed by Karachi and Kinshasa, respectively.
