We're into November and despite the weather cooling down, the events in Shanghai are hot as ever. Here are the best things to do in town this week.

Fly by Jing private kitchen: New Zealand meets Sichaun

Birdstriking

Having started out with a sound that was often seen as a hybrid of Carsick Cars and Hedgehog, Beijing trio-turned-quintet Birdstriking have gone on to hone their material and establish themselves as one of the capital's leading acts in their own right.

Chic-a-Go-Go

A 'live punk dance party' double header from the renowned Chicago TV show with Lao Ayi, Torturing Nurse and Round Eye at Yuyintang on Saturday night, then Ugly Girls and Tokyo Tea at Neo on Sunday, and Dirty Fingers at both. Expect punk, harsh noise (on Saturday), post-punk and more from some of the city's best bands.

Charlotte de Witte

Elevator has some impressive international bookings this month, and this is another of them as MIIIA hosts exciting Belgian DJ and producer Charlotte De Witte for a night of dark, intense techno.

Kode9

Hyperdub founder and masterful producer and DJ Kode9 makes his near-annual visit to Shanghai, this time promising an all-night five-hour long set. Not one to be missed.

Drew Fralick: Red, White and Drew

China International Comedy Festival 2017 winner Drew Fralick headlines Kung Fu Komedy with his new show 'Red, White and Drew', with support from Alejandro Scott, Danay Kidane, Norah Yang and host Byron Murphy.

Pac-12 China Game: UCLA vs Georgia Tech

Pac-12 opens its men's basketball season here in China for a third year, as UCLA take on Georgia Tech, with the game being shown live on both ESPN and Youku Sports.

Film

Thor: Ragnarok

Irreverent, helter-skelter and more colourful than an Oompa Loompa’s cheese dream, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok has all the hallmarks of a franchise confident enough to throw the ball to the most singular filmmakers and let them run with it. The story picks up two years after the events of Age of Ultron with a lost and hammerless Thor (Chris Hemsworth, showing off his comedy chops) washing up on Sakaar, where the now perma-furious Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is a gladiatorial hero.

ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair 2017

The huge Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair is back for its 5th year this art season, showcasing a premier selection of modern art by the world's leading galleries from across the globe. 2017 ART021 will also host events including educational talks and projects. Add ART-021 on WeChat for more info.
