A London-themed street is coming to Minhang

When you think of Minhang district, what do you think of? ATP tennis, catching fast trains up to Beijing from Hongqiao Railway Station, and Qibao (the water town you took your parents to when they visited because it was the easiest to get to) spring to mind. Well, soon you'll also be thinking of London.


That's right, according to SHINE, London Street is coming to Minhang and will be open to the public in 2020. The street in Meilong town will include shopping, catering, recreational and leisure facilities, as well as a complex of 18 British-style buildings and structures, including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, London Bridge and the London Eye.


A potential rival for Songjiang's British-inspired Thames Town, we wonder just how much like London this new street will be. Will we see black cabs? Red buses? Frustrated, stony-faced commuters? Unnecessarily expensive pints of beer? All we are hoping for is a Wetherspoons and maybe a Gregg's...
