Film
Thor: Ragnarok
Irreverent, helter-skelter and more colourful than an Oompa Loompa’s cheese dream, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok has all the hallmarks of a franchise confident enough to throw the ball to the most singular filmmakers and let them run with it. The story picks up two years after the events of Age of Ultron with a lost and hammerless Thor (Chris Hemsworth, showing off his comedy chops) washing up on Sakaar, where the now perma-furious Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is a gladiatorial hero.
On general release.
Murder on the Orient Express
Glamorous passengers are stuck on a train while a murderer is on the loose – it’s a jolly good job the detective Hercule Poirot (director Kenneth Branagh) is among them. As they board the train in their finery, it’s pleasantly easy to get distracted by the casting in Branagh’s Agatha Christie adaptation, which is just as glittering as its 1974 predecessor, also set in 1930s Europe.
On general release.
Stage
Jersey Boys
They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard… and the radio just couldn’t get enough of.
