Electronic music festival Creamfields is coming to Shanghai

International electronic music festival brand Creamfields is set to hold a Shanghai edition this year – it's been officially confirmed by organisers Live Nation.

As part of an ambitious first foray into Mainland China, Creamfields will be hosting 'festivals' in Guangzhou, Chengdu and Beijing over the course of 2018, winding up in Xiamen and Shanghai in December. That may be a bit of a wait for EDM fans in this city, but it'll likely mean a tie-up with Creamfields fests in Hong Kong and Taiwan, which in turn ought to make for a big name line-up.

'We welcome ravers from all kind of background with luxurious line-up and face melting stages,' the official press release declares. 'We are bringing Cream to China and show what Chinese ravers truly deserve.'

The exact 'luxurious' line-up and dates for Shanghai's Creamfields festival haven't yet been revealed – let alone the venue here, which will presumably be indoor given the time of year – but Live Nation have announced some of the names confirmed to play at least one of the China Creamfields events they're hosting this year. They include Armin van Buuren (who is in Shanghai in March anyway), Diplo, Dimitri Vegas + Like Mike, Hardwell, and Marshmello.

Meanwhile DJ Snake has been confirmed as a headliner for the first of Mainland China's Creamfields festivals, which will take place in Guangzhou in April and be swiftly followed by one in Chengdu that same month. A Beijing version will be held in May and there'll also be a number of spin-off 'tour' shows in cities including Chongqing and Wuhan throughout the year.

It's been 20 years since Creamfields started in the UK and over that time it's become established as one of the biggest dance events in the country – name a leading EDM star and chances are they've performed there. Paul Oakenfold and Ferry Corsten have even released spin-off albums from it.

Of course, you're not truly an EDM fest giant these days unless you go international and so in recent years Creamfields have taken their brand to Chile, Mexico, UAE, Brazil and Australia. Late last year they held festivals in Taiwan and Hong Kong with Tiesto, KSHMR, Marshmello and Above & Beyond among the headliners.

The brand becomes the latest big-name international music festival to take aim at the burgeoning market here, following in the footsteps of EDM imports such as Ultra Festival, who made their Mainland China debut last year. And the news comes amid rumours that Live Nation will also be bringing the Electric Daisy Carnival festival brand to China this year as the international music promotion behemoth ramps up its focus on quenching China's growing thirst for EDM.
