Starbucks Roastery makes 14 times the daily profit of US stores
The world's biggest Starbucks opened here in Shanghai eight weeks ago (of course it did) and it has unsurprisingly proved extremely popular.
According to CNBC, the store has been smashing sales records, raking in around the equivalent of 64,000USD per day (405,277RMB) – twice as much as a typical US Starbucks store makes in one week. Chairman Howard Schultz told CNBC, 'In my long, long history of Starbucks, I have never, ever seen anything remotely like what happened when we opened the Shanghai Roastery,' said company Chairman Howard Schultz.
Sitting proudly on Nanjing Xi Lu, The Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a Willy Wonka-esque coffee bean behemoth, serving up pretty much every caffeinated beverage imaginable, as well as boozy drinks and a formidable selection of tea.
The store has been so popular amongst Shanghai's coffee fans that it isn't uncommon for people to queue to get in, with people waiting outside for multiple hours during the Roastery's first few weeks. So if you decide to head down, don't expect your coffee to be instant...
