Shanghai Disney previews Toy Story Land, confirms open date

Kenny Ong TimeOutShanghai 2019-04-11

A mildly unsettling post from the Disney Parks Blog has given the world an opening date (April 26 this year) and a sneak peek at what's in store for the much awaited Toy Story Land in Shanghai's own Disney park.

The post is mildly unsettling because of how the post suggests that Toy Story Land guests will '“shrink” to the size of a toy' (they say nothing of unshrinking you), and how the post refers to the human Toy Story character Andy Davis like he's real and a giant builder of worlds constructing his domain of fun, which he could giveth or taketh away.

'Here, guests can take a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit and topped off with Rex and Jessie, while Slinky serves as the coaster vehicle.'

Behold, Andy's great works, but don't despair. Or do despair. The Slinky Dog Dash isn't coming to Shanghai's Toy Story Land. See? Andy already taketh away.

Shanghai's Toy Story Land is getting three main attractions – Slinky Dog Spin, Rex's Racer (first image above), and Woody's Round-Up.

Nothing to show for Woody's Round-Up yet except concept art, and some Disney wikia flavour text:

Woody has rounded up a herd of ponies, each one pulling a cart, in a ranch set up by Andy Davis. Guests can climb aboard the carts as the ponies start a little square dance swinging their carts to and fro in time to the lively music.

Sounds like it'll be a Woody-take on a whip ride, like the classic teacup rides that try to swill you around until your laughing deliriously or seriously dizzy. The concept art for Shanghai's Toy Story Land places the whip ride in what looks like a shed in the corner of the park.

We're looking forward to the whip ride in the shed. Shrink us down, Disney, we don't mind staying tiny forever.
