'Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery…all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts' – no, we're not talking about a Saturday night at Found 158, world-famous musical Chicago is coming to Shanghai.

A huge Broadway hit that has toured the world and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film, Chicago is set during the 1920s, telling the story of rival vaudevillian murderesses Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart and their battle to avoid death row while simultaneously striving for the fame they oh so desire.

The show is coming to Shanghai's Majestic Theatre from December 20-January 13 (tickets are only currently available for the December shows) and you can book your seat through Time Out Tickets. The cheap seats are already sold out, with remaining tickets ranging from 580-980RMB, and if you buy four tickets from Time Out Tickets you will receive 100RMB off your order.

More Broadway shows

Chicago isn't the only Broadway hit to arrive in the city this year, with Kinky BootsCats and Rent set to grace the Shanghai stage, while The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time premiers this week. Extract the QR codes in the images to book tickets.

Kinky Boots

Fabulously sassy, uplifting and ever so kinky, this Tony Award-winning Broadway musical is based on true events. Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, with music and lyrics by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots tells the story of a struggling Northampton shoe factory. It follows the factory owner Charlie Price whose chance encounter with drag queen Lola inspires a production line of sexy heels for transvestites that helps save the family business.

Shanghai Culture Square 597 Fuxing Zhong Lu, near Shaanxi Nan Lu. July 11-17. 180-980RMB.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Called 'one of the most fully immersive shows ever to wallop Broadway' by The New York Times, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a record-breaking theatrical phenomenon that simply must not be missed.

Shanghai Culture Square 597 Fuxing Zhong Lu. May 9-13. 300-800RMB.

Rent

Having hit the Broadway stage way back in 1996, rock musical Rent is still going strong and is coming to Shanghai in 2018 as part of its 20th anniversary touring production. Loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème opera, the Tony Award-winning show will make its bow at Shanghai Culture Square this August.

Shanghai Culture Square 597 Fuxing Zhong Lu. Aug 30-Sep 5. From 280RMB.

Cats

Broadway and West End smash Cats, winner of more awards than we can list, is coming to Shanghai this summer. A show about cats (sorry for the spoiler...), the performance conveys a story of hidden society, rules and manners. It's also known for classic and award-winning songs such as 'Memory', a hit that has been recorded by more than 150 artists, including Barbra Streisand and Barry Manilow.

Shanghai Culture Square 597 Fuxing Zhong Lu. June 7-24. From 280-1,080RMB.
