A boozy late-night doughnut pop-up opens Friday on Donghu Lu

Photographs: courtesy Happy Ending

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: 'Mmmmmm, donuts!' This Friday and Saturday night, skip dinner and head straight for dessert at the Happy Ending late-night doughnut pop-up in Madison Kitchen from 9pm through 2am courtesy of three self-proclaimed 'Shanghai-dwelling donut dreamers'.

Happy Ending (minds out of the gutter, folks) is the 'rainbow-sprinkled lovechild' of Andrew Moo, Clara Davis and Maris Brasil Marotta. The name of the game here is delightful artisanal doughnuts, with flavours ranging from (pretty) twists on classics, like a take on raspberry jam-filled doughnut oozing with vibrant coulis and adorned with flowers and crumbled pistachios, to the trending, with one coated in maple syrup and sprinkled with bacon dust, salted egg yolk and gold leaf. And for the pop-up, because (sadly) we cannot live on doughnuts alone, there'll also be craft cocktails from Peddlers (chocolate negronis, Frappuccino martinis) as well as a shot-doughnut combo.

Doughnuts start at 25RMB and cocktails 50RMB, but beyond that there'll also be Vedett beer, wine, free candy and projections of 'doughnut porn'. We aren't 100 percent sure what doughnut porn is, but we imagine holes will be filled... (ahem). It's also your last chance to swing by Madison Kitchen's Donghu Lu digs as they'll be moving to a temporary home in Pirata on Dongping Lu starting September 1.

Wanna win two free doughnut-shot combos? Send a message to the official Time Out Shanghai WeChat account (TimeOutShanghaiEN) with the quote 'Mmmmmm, donuts!' (six m's exactly) before Thursday at 11pm.

📍 Madison Kitchen, 38 Donghu Lu, near Xinle Lu. Fri 31-Sun 2. 9pm-2am.
