There will be no cries of 'vamos, Rafa!' at Minhang's Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena this year as ATP world number one Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the 2018 Shanghai Rolex Masters.

Nadal, who finished runner-up to Roger Federer at last year's event, has cited a knee injury as his reason for missing the tournament next month and will reportedly also miss the China Open in Beijing, according to BBC Sport.

The 32-year-old Spaniard made the decision to skip this October's China tournaments to allow his knee to recover. The same injury caused him to withdraw from Spain's Davis Cup semi-final versus France over the weekend and also the semi-finals of the US Open earlier this month. He is hoping to be back in action in Paris at the end of October.

But fear not, tennis fans, a slew of the world's best players from the ATP circuit are still expected to be here, including Federer, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. We hear their crowds make quite the racket, even without Nadal.
