Yes, we know the weather sucks. But there's a new film from the Harry Potter universe out and Machine Gun Kelly is here, so that's good, yeah? Read on for our top ten picks for the weekend ahead.


Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

It's all about witches, wizards, magical creatures and Eddie Redmayne being ever so timid and ever so British as magizoologist Newt Scamander in the latest adventure from J.K Rowling's Harry Potter universe, also starring Johnny Depp, Katherine Waterston, Jude Law and Ezra Miller.

The HYVE Chef Trials

THE HYVE and DiningCity present a three-day chef cook-off where four-star chefs battle it out for the title of Chefs Trial Champion. Watch the live-trials at the Jingan Kerry Center and try a different three-course menu on each day.

Brilliant British producer Kieran Hebden, adored in electronic and indie music circles alike, makes his debut Mainland China appearance with two dates in November – one in Beijing and one right here in Shanghai.

On Friday, Arkham hosts J.I.D along with Ziv, Vroskiii, 阿克江Akin and a DJ set from Kin.J, while on Saturday, Machine Gun Kelly takes centre stage at Modern Sky Lab, along with MC光光, 深蓝儿童 (Indigo Children), NINEONE#, YOUNG13DBABY, Young Poc, T.A.C.E., 沙皇40F, MAFI∀, and MC天天.

The Pearl's 5-year anniversary

The Pearl turns five and is hosting an over-the-top anniversary party to celebrate. The night will feature a spectacular cavalcade of Pearl cabaret performers, dancers, DJ's and new house band Red Stars.

Bar Rouge's 14th Anniversary

The iconic red rooftop bar on the Bund is celebrating 14 years of dance parties, world-class DJs, ladies nights and truly being a nightlife staple in the Shanghai scene. To celebrate, they're bringing out the sparklers, shimmer and champagne showers for a disco party over two weekends. Hitting it off with an opening ceremony on Friday 16.

Subland Afternoon Unplugged Session Ep.1-Dirty Fingers

Woah, this is unexpected. Shanghai punk tearaways Dirty Fingers are playing an unplugged show. 'Just like Nirvana with candles flowers and shit', says the flyer. Huh. 'Bringing the creatures of the night into light so you can see their true colours', they also say. Alright. Got to be careful with the neighbours we suppose.

Dot-Dot Carnival

Swanky Bund-side bar Club 3 1/3 is getting into the festive (no, we're not talking Christmas) spirit with its Dot-Dot Carnival. Expect lots of Lolea sangria (their branding is dots, in case you were wondering what that was all about) and tapas.

SCC Stand-Up Comedy Feature Show: Dwight Wozich

Shanghai Comedy Club regular Dwight Wozich performs his farewell show at Cages before moving to Shenzhen. Support comes from Stephen Smith, Charlie Wallace, Eric Alexander, Gene George, Evan Danger, Ian Badenhorst and visiting comic Jez Watts.

Jigger & Pony Pop-Up at Union Trading Company

Jarold Koo, who calls the shots at Jigger and Pony (ranked 42 in Asia's 50 Best Bars), is in town and will be flexing his mixing muscles at Union in the lead up to the Drink Magazine Bar Awards (DMBA).
