Woof. Nicki Minaj's people must be feeling kind of grateful to Dolce & Gabbana right now, giving people here something else to get outraged over. What a mess that whole DWP thing was. Anyway, here are some gigs and parties where we're pretty sure people will actually take to the stage (and that won't set you back over 1k).

Brasstracks

Live trumpet-and-percussion-meets-electronic music duo Ivan Jackson and Conor Rayne – aka Brasstracks – hit Shanghai for a version of their live show that has rocked the likes of Coachella and Denver's Red Rocks. You might know the pair from their assistance with Chance the Rapper's 'No Problem' hit, which also featured Lil Wayne and 2Chainz.

The 尺口MP + Dirty Fingers

Fuzhou's finest The 尺口MP join Shanghai rock 'n' roll rapscallions Dirty Fingers for a gig that's not just your average Thursday nighter.

Ladies Night

Bar Rouge, in collaboration with MVP Events brings you a special anniversary edition of their Ladies Night with resident DJ John Avolio on the decks. All ladies are entitled to free cocktails and manicure services until 11.30pm. Entrance is free until 12.30am with password 'MVP', otherwise 100RMB.

Jacques Greene

House, techno and R&B blender, Radiohead remixer, and one-time Pitchfork darling (his 'Another Girl' track was picked as a 'Song of the Decade' by the tastemaking publication) hits town for a show.

Kasra

After nearly a year away DJ Siesta's Sweatshop brand is back with a bang: Critical Music mastermind Kasra. CM are one of the most relevant drum n bass labels going right now and you can expect a night filled with forward-thinking dnb. Sweatshop residents Arkaik and Fractale, long-time co-conspirator Resinate, and 'special guest from the south' Daniel Power join the fray with MC R Vee.

Techno Train X Toxic Presents: EPIZODE³ Pre-Party

Zhou Yunpeng

Renowned Shenyang-born folk artist Zhou Yunpeng – who has been blind since the age of nine – brings his live show to Shanghai.

Feeling A Moment Tour: Feeder Live in Shanghai

Feeder is coming to Bandai Namco Future House to celebrate their 21st anniversary as a band. In the '90s, Londoner Grant Nicholas and Tokyo-born bassist Tara Hirose secured themselves a spot as one of Britain's most iconic rock bands. Their melodic pop-metal has won them six gold and platinum records in the UK and a global fanbase. There's no doubt this gig will be a good one.

Future Orients

Beijing outfit Future Orients – formerly known as Eat or Die – hit Shanghai with support from Donald Trump's favourite Chinese band (probably), Golden Shower.

Bar Rouge Anniversary Closing Celebration

Cheers to the memories and be prepared to get soaked. As with all closing celebrations at Bar Rouge, the bar's anniversary celebrations ends with champagne showers.

China Social Club

Hyph11E is joining China Social Club's Frau & PCJ at DADA this Saturday for a night of house, techno, club and acid.

THEQUE

Lindberg is off after nearly a decade in Shanghai. The Swedish DJ behind the 12 Inches of Fun nights is throwing his farewell party at the Shanghai Edition hotel with help from Tobias Patrick. Expect rare grooves, electronic music, and lots of hugs.

Guan

Exciting electronic producer out of Hangzhou and a lynch pin of the Function Lab crew there (largely responsible for the city's emergence as something of a hub for interesting electronic music of late), Guan drops new EP Barbaric King on Douban's D Force imprint. Fellow Hangzhou resident GG Lobster provides support alongside two of Shanghai's top talents Gooooose and Hyph11e.
