In good news for those who like it rare, American steakhouse Wolfgang’s is setting up shop in Shanghai. Opened by father-son duo Wolfgang and Peter Zwiener, the restaurant has a couple dozen outlets across Asia and the United States but with a flagship on Park Avenue, it remains a New York staple.

The signature order here is the mammoth porterhouse (pictured main), which is dry-aged in-house for 28 days before arriving sizzling and swimming in juices and fat, meat both charred and buttery in all the right places. Other menu standouts include a thick-cut bacon appetiser (another Wolfgang signature) and all the classic US steakhouse sides like mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and lobster mac and cheese. To round out the meal, dessert offerings include New York-style cheesecake, tiramisu and warm apple strudel.

With a fully stocked wine cellar and mega-indulgent menu, a luxe dining room that's all rosewood and leather, and nods to the original location (portraits of Wolfgang’s No 1 throughout the space are a nice touch), a dinner here is the full old-school New York steakhouse experience, and it all officially opens tomorrow (Dec 16) on the first floor of Sinar Mas Plaza.
