Chinese New Year is so close, we can almost smell the Year of the Pig. However, what you should be smelling first is the weekend... As usual, Shanghai is delivering the goods. Read on for our pick of some of the best things to get involved with over the next few days.


Shaving in the Dark Issue 7 Zine Launch Party

The art and comic collective, Shaving in the Dark, celebrates the release of its seventh issue this Friday at WE with a night of music, nerdom and drinks courtesy of Ask Jerry. SITD will be accepting comic submissions pertaining to the theme 'VIRUS.' All zine purchases will be rewarded with a free shot.

The Museum of Failure

Shanghai School of Burlesque Winter Showcase

We might be deep into Shanghai's winter but things are heating up at The Pearl this weekend. After their sold out Summer Show, the performers from Shanghai School of Burlesque are back with their Winter Showcase. See Betty Snatch, Holly Got Lucky, Lady Fortune Cookie and more grace the stage for a night of song, dance, burlesque and all things cabaret.

SoundFlow at Tianzifang

Wild Life Yoga and Healing is offering a 90-minute immersive yoga experience that pairs dreamy electronica with movement and meditation. Jayna (who teaches at Z&B) and DJ CELLDIV (who frequently plays at C's) will lead the session. Light bites and drinks are included with entry.

Australia Day at The Camel

Cosign Anniversary Party

ALL's weekly night of experimental techno, Cosign, turns one this Saturday. Berlin-based producer TJ Hertz (Objekt) is set to headline alongside Amsterdam's Job Sifre. Objekt has made a strong imprint on the techno community with his mathematical, hard-edged rhythms and debut album, Flatlands. Sife is a resident of Red Light Radio and De School. His Worries EP was the most played-record of Dekmantel Selectors festival a few years back.

Tapas & Gin

Chef Koen Vessies has teamed up with the team from Peddlers to create a one-off cocktail and food degustation – seven courses paired with seven custom cocktails. Bookings are essential.

Dead Pigs

Director Cathy Yan's debut film Dead Pigs makes an ensemble movie out of today's Shanghai and the people we know in it: a young busboy, an ambitious American architect, an apathetic rich girl, a farmer and a no-bullshit ayi who refuses to sell her property. Their disparate lives converge and come to a head when, mirroring real-life events, thousands of rotting pig carcasses are found floating in the Huangpu River, Shanghai's drinking water source.

人Magazine Celebration

Celebrate the release of the first edition of B人 BEL magazine, a publication hoping to bring visibility to those often absent or misrepresented in the mainstream media. There will be live music, art performances, a photography presentation and, of course, the chance to get your hands on the new magazine.

Queen Tribute Concert

The Pearl's live band pay tribute to one of the most iconic and highly celebrated rock bands in recent history. Booking ahead is a must – this performance, on the heels of the Freddy Mercury biopic and fall blockbuster Bohemian Rhapsody, will likely sell out fast.
