Getting a cab during Chinese New Year can be a tough prospect as drivers on ride-hailing apps clear out of the city or take a break from work in favour of some r'n'r. Well, the folks at Didi will be trying their best to help you – and its drivers – out by imposing a surcharge during the busiest period of the holiday week.
According to SHINE, between Jan 28 and Feb 10, a surcharge ranging from 1-9RMB will be added to all Didi trips across key areas of 268 Chinese cities – Shanghai included. The exact cost of the surcharge is dependent on where and when you order a car.
While you may not think paying extra money can be classified as helping you out, the money from the surcharge will go directly to the driver without Didi taking a cut, ergo acting as more of an incentive for drivers to be on the road during the holiday.
The team at Didi will also be monitoring weather/road conditions over the holiday period and will alert drivers and passengers of any issues that may have a bearing on travel safety. Xin nian kuai le and safe travels.
