14 Valentine's Day dining deals for treating your main squeeze

Living in the big city, big romantic moments can happen all the time. But if you're looking for ways to make bae feel extra special this Valentine's Day, there's no shortage of restaurants around the city that can help. The Sukhothai Shanghai

Both La Scala and URBAN Café at The Sukhothai Shanghai are getting into the Valentine's spirit this year. Italian restaurant La Scala will be offering a five-course dinner for two complete with a bottle of prosecco (1,288RMB), while URBAN Café will be serving up a Southeast Asian menu with two glasses of prosecco (468RMB for two). Couples also get a handmade gift. (Prices not including 10 percent service charge and 6 percent VAT).

Mr & Mrs Bund

Mr & Mrs Bund is all about setting the mood this Valentine's Day with roses, candles, Champagne and sharing set menus loaded up with a mix of Paul Pairet classics (think jumbo shrimp 'in citrus jar', long short rib teriyaki, the lemon and lemon tart) and the likes of lobster, waygu rib eye steak and black cod truffle meunière, all set to a soundtrack of love songs.

PHÉNIX Eatery & Bar

PHÉNIX at the PuLi has put together a Valentine's menu with highlights including a seafood escabèche and braised wagyu beef. Or go big with a six-course tasting menu with a dedicated butler service throughout the evening, and an hour-long UR SPA treatment voucher for two. Booking required 48 hours in advance.

The Commune Social

Share the love on Valentine's Day with The Commune Social's eight-course sharing menu (888RMB per couple), including a glass of sparkling wine. Limited seating, RSVP strongly recommended.

The Captain

Celebrate your Valentine's Day with dinner on top of one of the most beautiful terraces on The Bund. The Captain's four-course set menu features mains like pan-fried Canadian black cod or four-cheese gnocchi, and includes two glasses of Italian sparkling wine.

Strictly Cookies

Strictly Cookies dominates the American-style cookie scene in Shanghai with its range of chewy, chunky and out-of-this-world sweet treats. It has also put together two Valentine's specials this year: Cookie Grams, with 50 cookie letters that arrive in a heart-shaped tin so you can customise to your heart's content; or Cookie Hearts, a pack of five different cookies decorated with flirty phrases.

Stone Brewing Tap Room

Show your love with beer. Stone Brewing's Valentine's Day menu includes spicy salmon tartare, creamy asparagus soup with parma ham, herb-crusted angus beef tenderloin and rich lava sea salt cheesecake, with beer pairings available for each course.

D.O.C. Gastronomia Italiana

Head to D.O.C.'s new Dagu Lu location for a five-course Valentine's Day menu of Italian dishes like arugula salad with pear, squid ink spaghetti and tiramisu. Valentine's bookings also get a bottle of prosecco on arrival.

Azul

Azul is celebrating Valentine’s Day with an eight-course set menu that includes mushroom croquettes, a winter salad of tomato and prawns and pan-seared foie gras on corn bread. For mains, there’s a duck confit with black bean puree, Argentinian beef with chimichurri and tamarind, and green quinoa risotto with halibut.

Mia Fringe

Multi-brand lifestyle space and restaurant Mia Fringe is keeping things classy for Valentine's Day with a six-course dinner that kicks off with a sharing plate of French Tarbouriech oysters with salmon roe and a white wine vinegar sauce before moving on to the likes of New Zealand venison carpaccio with pickled vegetables and goats cheese, lobster bisque, beef tortellini and asparagus shrimp risotto. The set also comes with a welcome glass of sparkling rosé and a pair of complimentary Westwillow mugs.

The Bull & Claw

The Fenyang Lu surf and turf spot is putting together a five-course Valentine's menu that includes oysters, roasted scallops, crispy pork belly and more.

HIYA

A Japanese izakaya-inspired restaurant taking cues from Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton's London restaurant, Sosharu, HIYA is putting together a set menu that starts off with house-made snacks and the chef’s selection of six different sashimi, followed by Alaskan king crab temaco, roasted mushroom miso soup, Sanchoku Australian wagyu shortrib, and wraps up with black forest cake and more sweets.

The Shanghai Tavern

The Shanghai EDITION’s all-day dining brasserie, reminiscent of the London EDITION’s Berners Tavern, is putting together a Valentine's Day menu including Lobster arancini, a half-dozen oysters, beef tartare and barbecue scallops, and ends on a sweet note with Baked Alaska, rose and raspberry parfait, cinnamon shortbread and more.

Colca

Colca's V Day menu kicks off with tapas to share, followed by a ceviche-avocado roll, sea bass tiradito and crispy calamari salad. For mains, it’s octopus with whipped potato causa and rib eye with crispy potato and vegetable sides, cooked in the josper oven. Dessert is Peruvian alfajores, a type of cornstarch cookie with dulce de leche, and a chocolate mousse.
