Editor-in-Chief


Role overview

We are looking for an Editor-in-Chief who has strong experience in both a print and digital media environment to take charge of and drive forward Time Out Shanghai and Time Out Shanghai Family across all platforms. We are seeking a leader in the vertical who is able to confidently manage our team of passionate editors and someone who is bursting with ideas on audience development. The Editor-in-Chief will serve as the face of the editorial department and should have a strong list of contacts in the lifestyle sectors.


Key responsibilities

- Management of the editorial team, alongside the Managing Editor, including leading quarterly evaluations and regular meetings

- Work with the Managing Editor to develop and drive forward short- and long-term editorial content strategies for all platforms

- Oversee editorial content curation across all platforms, including digital, print and social

- Co-manage the quarterly print cycles alongside the Managing Editor

- Create and edit strong content for digital and print platforms as needed

- Work with the marketing team on events and branding strategies, including building brand awareness

- Support the sales team by attending client meetings, creating on-brand promoted content and advertorials and handling custom client projects

- Handle administration tasks, including hiring and onboarding editors and coordinating budgets

- Represent the Time Out brand at industry events


Personal attributes and essential skills

- At least three years' previous experience working in an editorial team, with at least one year's experience in a similar role

- Passion for and strong awareness of Shanghai's lifestyle scene and the Time Out brand

- Strong organisational skills, an acute attention to detail and excellent multi-tasking skills

- Strong writing, editing and sub-editing skills

- Excellent grasp and understanding of SEO best practices, Content Management Systems, Adobe Photoshop and Creative Suite

- Ability to lead and contribute to a fun and dynamic team-based environment

- Flexibility and a professional approach at all times

- A keen interest in design and branding

- Chinese-language skills are a benefit, but not essential
