人生如球场,何不have a go?

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has taken a break from his busy trip to Australia to attend an Australian Football League match with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney.

They sat together to take in the season opener featuring the Sydney Swans against Port Adelaide at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The Chinese Premier told media that he is looking forward to introducing the sport to Chinese fans.

I wear both of them even though the weather is not cold at all to show my love and support for both teams. I will cheer for you all no matter which side wins.

I will behave as a faithful spectator and loudly cheer for whichever team that scores the goal.

China does not want to see the practice of picking sides, which smacks of the Cold War mentality.

Coming Soon

Two AFL squads, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast, will face off in Shanghai on May 14. That will be the first-ever match for premiership points to take place outside Australia and New Zealand.

CRI's Report

Australian Rules, or Aussie Rules is an incredibly physical game, involves a rugby-shaped football, and a simple objective to kick the ball between two posts on a field.

It is a sport that originated in Australia but has now made its way to China. Zhang Hao, the Operations Manager at South China AFL is working to introduce the sport to Guangdong locals.

"When I came to Guangzhou no one played AFL, right now there are a few hundred. Even they graduate, they work, they still have interest to watch the game, it's not only a sport, it's a brotherhood, with time going it has already become part of life. "

Feti Meka, an Australian student in Beijing, and captain and club president of the Wudaokou Warriors, says playing Aussie Rules in China brings people together.

"I try so many times to really get family and friends back home to understand and appreciate know just how much of a great experience it is here in Beijing and to play the sport that I love back home, there's just interesting the diversity of people we get back coming through between all the students and the professionals here and all the and nationalities here. It's just incredible."

The growth is part of a promotional push by the Port Adelaide Football Club for Aussie Rules in China, and Premier Li's visit to the AFL game on Saturday is being seen as an endorsement of how far the sport has come.

In Premier Li's article in The Australian, the country's major newspaper, he wrote of how China truly admired the Australian people for their perseverance and courage to forge ahead.

Feti also highlights two authentic or 'true blue' Australian values when introducing the sport to his friends.

"It's all about having a go, the best things you can do today is find the ball is do you best to get it and have a go and do what you think is right. A game of AFL is won and lost on how much you want it. So I think that it's really definitive of Australian culture and Australians internationally, you pursue and have a go at things and push the boundaries, and really look to reap rewards to what they put in."

Although the sport is a niche Australian game, it is getting more attention in China, with China's major sports TV channel now broadcasting Australian games.

In May this year, two major AFL clubs will fly to Shanghai and play their first premiership points game. This game aims to bring yet more attention to the sport in China, and further build social ties between China and Australia.

Have a go - make an attempt at something; "I never sat on a horse before but I'll give it a go" (thefreedictionary.com)

总之,人生如球场,找准了目标,何不 have a go?
