Definition: Join a growing movement in support of someone or something, often in an opportunist way, when that movement is seen to have become successful.
Origin: The word bandwagon was coined in the USA in the mid 19th century, simply as the name for the wagon that carried a circus band. In the late 19th century, politicians picked up on this form of attracting a crowd and began using bandwagons when campaigning for office.
Wagon 的意思常指四轮马车,bandwagon是乐队彩车,可指“浪潮,时尚”。Jump on the bandwagon 这个表达的意思是”跟风,随大流”。这个比喻据说源于十九世纪的美国,当时马戏团每到一个城市,都会组织热闹非凡的游行队伍来吸引当地的观众。这个表达中 jump 一词可以用 climb 或 get 来替代,意思是一样的。
