Xi stresses efforts to build ecological civilization


The Chinese President has stressed ongoing efforts in building an ecological civilization by adhering to green development concepts.


Xi Jinping made the remarks while speaking on the achievements of a forest farm in Hebei Province.


He says efforts to pursue green development and an ecological civilization should be made to create harmony between humans and nature, and leave a better environment for future generations.



India withdraws personnel from Chinese territory: China


The Chinese Foreign Ministry has confirmed that India has withdrawn all its military personnel and equipment from Chinese territory at the Doklam border area after a months-long stand-off.


The ministry says the withdrawal has been completed mid-afternoon and has been confirmed by Chinese personnel onsite.


A statement from the Ministry says China will continue to exercise its rights of sovereignty and safeguard territorial integrity in accordance with historical agreements on border demarcation.


On June 18, over 270 armed Indian troops with two bulldozers crossed the boundary into Doklam to obstruct Chinese infrastructure construction.



N Korea missile appears to have flown over Japan: Japanese gov't, local media


North Korea has reportedly fired a missile that appears to have flown over Japan.

The Japanese government made the announcement Tuesday morning via its J-Alert system, which is a satellite based system that allows authorities to quickly broadcast alerts to local media.


Japanese officials also say the missile appears to have fallen into the Pacific Ocean nearly 12-hundred kilometers east of Cape Erimo.



Chinese vice premier to travel to Russia for Far East cooperation meetings


The Chinese Foreign Ministry has said Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang will travel to Russia next week for a meeting on far east cooperation.

China drafts law on appropriate use of national anthem


China is drafting a law on the appropriate use of its national anthem.


According to Zhang Haiyang, deputy head of the NPC Law Committee, violators, including those who maliciously modify the lyrics, face criminal prosecution and up to 15 days detention.


He says other lawmakers also suggest making it compulsory to sing the national anthem at political gatherings.


The draft legislation was given a second reading at the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, which opened Monday.



IAEA conducts first nuclear security assessment on China


The International Atomic Energy Agency has started its first nuclear security assessment of China.


The assessment is being made at the request of the China Atomic Energy Authority.


During the ten-day assessment, the agency will review China's nuclear security system, laws and government supervision, and visit nuclear plants in Zhejiang Province.


The IAEA will carry out reviews of nuclear security systems and make suggestions for improvement.


Officials say China regards nuclear security as an important part of national security.



Six shot at library in New Mexico, southwestern U.S.


There has been a deadly mass shooting in the southwestern US.


Reports say two people are dead and at least six have been shot at a library in New Mexico.

Police have yet to confirm details related to fatalities, injuries, or the number of victims, nor have they released any information on the motive for the attack or the shooter.


The incident happened in Clovis, a city of about 40-thousand near the Texas state line, at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon local time on Monday.



EU Brexit negotiator 'concerned' about slow talks


European Union Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said he was worried that time is passing without progress on the terms for Britain's departure from the bloc.


Barnier called on Britain to clarify its position on all "separation issues".


He added the European Union and London could in turn start discussing their future relationship and a transitional period.


Britain's David Davis says London wants the EU to show 'imagination and flexibility' in the negotiations.


The third round of Brexit talks is taking place, more than a year after Britons voted in a referendum to leave the European Union.



China Allows Merger to Create World's Largest Power Company


Chinese authorities have approved the merger of electricity producer China Guodian and coal miner Shenhua Group, two of the country's largest state energy companies.


The merger is going to create the world's largest utility provider by capacity.


The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission issued a one-line statement this Monday announcing the approval of the merger.



Alibaba to license 10,000 physical stores


Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has announced that its online trade platform Tmall.com will license more than 10-thousand physical stores across the country this fiscal year.


Tmall.com will cooperate with Alibaba to upgrade brick-and-mortar stores, including a branding initiative.


These Tmall branded outlets will be "smart" stores. They will be upgraded based on the Alibaba Distribution Platform which provides a series of services related to ordering goods, logistics, sales, marketing, and value-added services.


So far, the Platform offers services to about 500-thousand stores.
