China remains persistent in denuclearizing Korean Peninsula: President Xi


The Chinese president has told his US counterpart that Beijing remains committed to the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.


During a phone conversation, President Xi Jinping and Donald Trump exchanged their views on the current situation on the peninsula.


Xi Jinping says China has been adamant in preserving the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula, and resolving the nuclear issue through talks.


Trump says Washington is deeply concerned over the ongoing situation on the Korean Peninsula, and attaches importance to China's essential role in resolving the issue.


Also during the phone talks, President Xi noted that exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States in various areas have been moving forward.


THAAD deployment complete in South Korea: media


South Korea has reportedly finished the deployment of its anti-missile THAAD system.

The arrival of four more missile launchers in the rural town of Seongju was said to have been met with strong opposition from locals.


The Chinese Foreign Ministry has said the deployment can only "severely damage" regional security, as well as raise "tensions and antagonism."


Seoul had already deployed two THAAD launchers at a former golf course.


China marks centenary of former senior official


A symposium was held at the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday to commemorate the centenary of the birth of late Chinese Vice Premier Yao Yilin.


Chinese Premier Li Keqiang attended the symposium, and met with Yao's relatives.

Yao, who died in 1994 at the age of 77, was vice premier from 1979 to 1993.


Pakistani FM to visit China


It's been announced that Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will pay an official visit to China starting on Friday.


The Chinese foreign ministry says the visit will include meetings with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and other leaders.


The ministry says the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that links the two countries will be a major topic of discussion during Asif's trip.


Mexican president eyes closer cooperation with Chinese e-commerce companies


Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto says China and Mexico have tremendous cooperation potential in the e-commerce sector.


He made the comment during his visit to Alibaba headquarters in Hangzhou.


Pena Nieto came to Hangzhou from Xiamen, where he attended the Dialogue of Emerging Markets and Developing Countries.


He said many small and medium-sized firms have benefited from Alibaba's e-commerce platform and he expressed hope that more companies in Mexico could cooperate with Chinese e-commerce companies in the future.


Jack Ma, Alibaba's founder and chairman, said more than 200,000 Mexican companies have registered on Alibaba's various platforms.


China, Britain to promote space education


Leading space scientists from Britain and China have signed a partnership agreement which aims to promote and strengthen both sides' space education and space culture activities.


Under the memorandum of understanding, a new virtual center will be established to lead space education and space culture activities between the two countries.


For the first stage of this partnership, the team aims to select 100 primary and middle schools in China, Britain, and countries along the Belt and Road to carry out a trial run of the education program.


The center will also be supported by the University of Nottingham in the areas of culture and education programs.


China donates about 100,000 USD to help rebuild war-ravaged Marawi in Philippines


The Philippine military has announced China has donated about 100-thousand U.S. dollars to help fund the rehabilitation of the war-ravaged southern Philippine city of Marawi.


A spokesman for the Armed Forces of the Philippines says the donation will primarily help with the delivery of engineering equipment.


The fighting, which broke out on May 23, continues as government security forces try to retake the city from extremists.


More than 800 people have been killed in the war to defeat the militants allied with the Islamic State that occupied most of the City.


Rouhani vows Iran never to breach nuclear deal


Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has vowed that Iran will never breach the nuclear deal it signed with several major world powers.


The Iranian leader says the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed in 2015 by Iran with the U.S., Russia, Britain, China and France plus Germany, is an important international accord.


He adds that Iran has spared no efforts in establishing stability and security in the region.


In the wake of the economic sanctions imposed recently by the U.S. government led by President Donald Trump, there have been worries about possible U.S. termination of the nuclear deal with Iran.


China's Mobike enters Malaysian market


Chinese bike sharing brand Mobike has announced its entry into the Malaysian market.


It reportedly put hundreds of its smart dock-less bikes into operation in Shah Alam, Selangor state.


The bikes, all transported from China, will also be in service in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, by the end of the year.

The company has partnered with local insurance providers to cover users who are involved in accidents.


However, officials with the company say there will be challenges in the market, like hot weather and a lack of bike lanes.


Mobike launched its international service in London in August, and made bike sharing available at a university in Thailand.
