China's registered urban unemployment rate lowest in years: official


China's Minister of Human Resources and Social Security says the country has maintained overall stability in employment in the past five years.

Yin Weimin, speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing Communist Party of China National Congress, also says the urban registered and survey-based jobless rates have been kept at a relatively low level.


In making the remarks, the official says it was a hard-won achievement, against the backdrop of a slowing and restructuring economy and a large labor force.


The registered unemployment rate in Chinese cities stood at 3.95 percent at the end of September, the lowest in years.


The survey-based jobless rate for 31 major cities stood at 4.83 percent in September, the lowest level since 2012.



China's housing market to continue stabilization: minister


A senior Chinese official says the country's property market is expected to continue stabilizing in the fourth quarter of this year.

Wang Menghui, Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development made the statement on the sidelines of the 19th CPC National Congress.


The official says the market will continue to see stabilizing prices and slower growth in transaction volume.


The minister also says the government will continue its efforts to achieve the goals of property market regulation and will maintain continuity and stability of policies.


He has pledged to put in place a housing system that ensures supply through multiple sources.



2nd World Congress on Marxism to be held in Beijing


The 2nd World Congress on Marxism is scheduled to be held at Peking University in Beijing in May.


The congress is expected to attract more than 300 researchers to discuss Marxism in the 21st century and its developments in China.


The congress coincides with the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth and 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up.



Mining in Liaoning nature reserves ceased: official


Authorities in China's Liaoning say mining has been suspended in all nature reserves in the northeastern province.


A total of 11 mines are located in nature reserves in the province.


All mines will be closed by the end of this year.


Li Yongtao, deputy director of Kuan-dian Manchu Autonomous County land resources bureau, says the local government will start environmental restoration work soon as production ceases.



Japan's ruling camp wins two-thirds majority in lower house election amid opposition splitting-up


Japan's ruling group, led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its junior partner, the Komeito Party, has won a two-thirds "super majority" in Sunday's lower house elections.


Preliminary results by Sunday evening showed the LDP had secured 283 seats of the 465-seat lower house of parliament and the Komeito Party had won 29 seats.


Local analysts say the result paves the way for the prime minister to realize his longtime ambition of revising the postwar pacifist constitution.



Officials confirm killing of militant group head in Pakistan's Karachi


Officials in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi confirmed that they have busted the network of militant organization Ansar-ul-Sharia and killed its chief.


In a press briefing on Sunday evening, a military official confirmed that Abdullah Hashmi had been killed in an overnight operation in the city.


The official said they received a tip-off regarding the presence of the militants in the Baldia Town area of the city, with the additional information that the group was planning to carry out an attack.

He said that three troops were injured during the operation.



Russia not to take part in talks to amend Iran nuclear deal


Russia has said it is confident that Iran is fulfilling all its obligations under a multilateral agreement on its nuclear program and will not take part in any talks on amending the deal.


Russia warned that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is delicately balanced and any change could cause the collapse of the whole agreement.


The agreement was reached between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, plus Germany, in July 2015.


Under the deal, Iran agreed to halt its nuclear weapons program in exchange for economic aid and the lifting of international sanctions.


However, on Oct. 13, US President Donald Trump called for decertifying the agreement, alleging Iran had committed "multiple violations."



Shinkansen parts produced by Kobe Steel fail to meet national standards: JR East


The producer of Japan's Shinkansen bullet train says it has been affected by the quality cheating scandal involving Kobe Steel.


East Japan Railway says materials from the steel maker, which have been used in the making of the landmark high speech train, have failed to meet Japan's industrial standards.


But the company says the problem will not pose a safety hazard.


The railway firm has also said it is planning to replace the unqualified products, and negotiations with Kobe Steel on this matter are expected to get underway soon.



UAE property developer partners with Huawei to offer smart home solutions


A major real estate developer in the United Arab Emirates says it has signed a new partnership with Huawei.


Deyaar Development says the five-year deal aims to provide its clients with digital technologies to better manage their homes.


The Dubai-based company says the partnership also seeks to help residents strengthen home security by using Huawei's CCTV video cloud.
