Xi visits revolutionary historical site in Zhejiang


Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and other CPC leaders visited the site in eastern China where the first CPC National Congress was held in 1921.

The Congress began in the French Concession area of Shanghai on July 21st but moved to a boat on Nangu Lake in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province after the delegates were harassed by the police after gathering at the first site.


Xi Jinping and other leaders also visited the Nanhu Lake Revolution Museum.


Twelve delegates attended the first CPC National Congress, representing more than 50 CPC members nationwide.


Earlier this month, more than 2,300 delegates attended the 19th CPC National Congress, representing over 89 million CPC members across China.


Chinese, Russian PMs meet in Beijing on ties


Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev met in Beijing on Tuesday, agreeing on closer cooperation and stronger ties between the two countries.


Medvedev is the first foreign leader to visit China after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.


Premier Li says this has shown the closeness and high level of China-Russia ties.


He adds China is ready to consolidate trust and expand cooperation with Russia.


Li Keqiang and Medvedev will hold the 22nd China-Russia Prime Ministers' Regular Meeting on Wednesday.


China halts sale of high-sulphur diesel in fuel upgrades


New pollution standards for diesel fuel take effect in China today.


The sulphur content of all diesel fuel supplied from here-on-in will be limited to below 10 parts per million.


Officials say the reduction in sulphur content will help to lower polluting emissions from tractors, locomotives, engineering machinery and boats.


The 28 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area will adopt the tougher "National VI" emission standard.


It's equivalent to the Euro VI standard.

China's reusable spacecraft to be launched in 2020


China plans to launch a reusable spacecraft in 2020.


Officials say that unlike traditional one-off spacecraft, the new ship will fly like an airplane.


The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation says the spacecraft will be easier to maintain and will improve the frequency of launches at lower cost, bringing new opportunities for more people to travel into space.


China's manufacturing activity continues expanding in October


The latest analysis is suggesting China's manufacturing sector has expanded at a slower pace last month.


The Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index has come in at 51.6 for October, slightly slower than the figures for September and August.


This is the 13th month the Manufacturing PMI has come in above 51, indicating steady growth.


It's being suggested the slowdown this month resulted from the 8-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday starting from October 1st.


Eight dead in "act of terror" in New York City: mayor


Eight people have been killed and a dozen more injured after a truck plowed into pedestrians near the World Trade Center in New York City.


Mayor Bill de Blasio has called the incident a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians.


New York City Police Commissioner James O' Neil said the suspect was a 29-year-old man who was not from New York. He said authorities would not release his identity immediately.


After the collision, the driver exited the vehicle, holding up a paintball gun and a pellet gun. He was shot by a uniformed police officer and was then sent to a hospital.


Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Chinese student near University of Utah


U.S. police have confirmed that the 24-year-old American man accused of killing a Chinese student near the University of Utah 's Salt Lake City campus was arrested on Tuesday.


The Salt Lake City Police Department has confirned that a suspect is in custody.


Austin Boutain has been named as the suspect in the killing of a 23-year-old Chinese student on Monday night in a failed carjacking near the campus.


The victim has been identified as Guo ChenWei, who was a pre- computer-science major and worked as a peer advisor in the university's International Student and Scholar Services Office.


Police disclosed on Tuesday that the suspect, who has a criminal history, and his wife may be connected to a recent suspicious death in the state of Colorado.


Trump not to visit DMZ: White House


The White House says President Donald Trump will not visit the Demilitarized Zone separating North Korea and South Korea during his upcoming Asian tour due to a tight schedule.


Instead, US officials say Trump will visit Camp Humphreys, a military base about 60 km south of Seoul, capital of South Korea.


Trump's travel to Asia is slated for Nov. 3 to the 14, and it will take him to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.


During the trip, Trump will attend the APEC summit in Vietnam and the 50th anniversary celebrations of ASEAN in the Philippines.
