Xi: China, U.S. should be partners, not rivals


President Xi Jinping has said China and the United States should be partners, not rivals, and together they could be good for each other and the whole world.


The Chinese President made the remarks while hosting a dinner at the Great Hall of the People for visiting U.S. President Donald Trump Thursday evening.


President Xi said he believes that the challenges of bilateral relations are limited but potential is limitless.


Trump said he believed that cooperation between the United States and China will benefit both sides, and bring peace, prosperity and security to the world.


The state visit by US president Donald Trump will come to an end later on today.


Xi says China and Vietnam should work towards peaceful solution to maritime disputes


The Chinese President has said China and Vietnam should stay committed to seeking a fundamental and durable solution to their maritime issues.


Xi Jinping has made the comment in a signed article published ahead of his planned visit to Vietnam.


The Chinese leader says the two sides need to "fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, actively advance consultation and jointly uphold peace and stability."


Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Vietnam and attend the 25th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in the city of Da Nang on Friday and Saturday.


APEC ministerial meeting reaffirms commitment to sustainable, inclusive growth


The APEC Ministerial Meeting has approved documents to be submitted to APEC leaders, including those on narrowing development gaps and advancing economic, financial and social inclusion.


The meeting stressed the importance of reform, improving productivity, and assisting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as equipping workers with new skills in the digital age.

As part of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week, the one-day ministerial meeting concluded in Vietnam late Wednesday.


NATO to increase mission in Afghanistan by 3,000 troops


NATO is planning to increase its training mission in Afghanistan by 3-thousand troops.


The new troops will make the overall size of NATO's training and support mission in Afghanistan from 13-thousand to 16-thousand troops.


NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the move comes as part of its Resolute Support Mission, which was launched in 2015 to provide training, advice and assistance for Afghan security forces and institutions.


NATO allied countries and partners also confirmed they would continue to fund the Afghan security forces until at least 2020.


3 killed, 3 injured in Russian building collapse


Russian authorities say at least three people were killed and three others injured after a residential building partially collapsed in the provincial city of Izhevsk.


The nine-story apartment building came down at around 4:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, leaving several people trapped under the debris.


Investigators say a natural gas blast is likely behind the building collapse.


It's reported that a child was among the killed. Lives of the injured are said to be out of danger.


Hundreds of rescuers continue to look for survivors.


MWC thinking about leaving Barcelona


It's been reported that the Mobile World Congress, the biggest event of the mobile phone industry, is thinking about leaving Barcelona because of political instability in Spain's northeastern region of Catalonia.


The MWC has been scheduled to be held in Barcelona between Feb. 26 and March 1 next year.


John Hoffman, from the GSM Association, admitted to be thinking about moving the MWC to somewhere else if there is not enough political and social stability in the city.


Meanwhile, the local government said it's confident that Barcelona has the resources and capacities to hold the event despite the political crisis happening in the region.


Barcelona's mayor said the city council would work to solve the political crisis in the best and the fastest way possible.


Silk Road Fund, General Electric set up energy infrastructure investment platform


General Electric and Silk Road Fund have announced a joint program on energy investment.


The two sides are set to make joint investment in power grids, new energy, and oil & gas in regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.


The Silk Road Fund is backed by China's foreign exchange reserve.


Wisconsin board clears way for $3 billion Foxconn deal


Wisconsin has approved a massive incentive package for an investment plan by Foxconn.


In September, Wisconsin's Governor signed a bill providing nearly 3 billion dollars in cash to Foxconn if the Taiwan-based electronics firm invested 10 billion dollars in a new factory in the US state.


Wisconsin's economic development board voted 8-to-2 this week in favor of the package.


Chinese man on trans-Pacific voyage in ocean rowboat rescued near Hawaii


A 32-year-old Chinese man, voyaging from the U.S. to Asia in an ocean rowboat, has been rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard near Hawaii after his friend reported a problem with communications equipment on the boat.


The U.S. Coast Guard says Yu Ruihan was rescued Tuesday morning about 42 kilometers southeast of Honolulu.


The Chinese sailor is reportedly hoping to stay in Maui while he waits for parts to repair his boat's Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon.


Yu Ruihan departed from California on June 9. His final destination is Australia.
