Definition: A person who is lazy and does not live up to their responsibilities.
Origin: American English slang, perhaps originally Civil War slang, from dead (adj.) + beat. Earlier used colloquially as an expression to mean "completely beaten" (1821), and perhaps the base notion is of worn out or good for nothing.
A
Chinese writer Lu Xun created a famous "deadbeat" character in the True Story of Ah Q.
中国作家鲁迅在“阿Q正传”中塑造了一个家喻户晓的无赖形象。
B
You should not be hanging out with a bunch of deadbeats. Otherwise, sooner or later you will become one of them.
你不要总和一群游手好闲的人在一起啊!这么下去你迟早会成为他们中的一员。
C
Her father is a real deadbeat, he never pays child support.
