FM Wang Yi lists China's foreign diplomacy priorities in 2018

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has laid out the country's foreign policy priorities for next year.

The minister said China will work to build a stable and balanced framework for its relations with the US, Russia and the EU.

Efforts will also be made to push for political solutions to issues such as the Korean Peninsula issue and the Afghanistan issue.

The foreign minister says authorities also plan to continue to expand the Belt and Road Initiative, and become even more active in global governance next year.

China sets schedule for becoming strong trading nation

Chinese authorities have issued a roadmap for turning the country into a "strong economic and trading nation in all respects" by 2050.

Under the plan, China is to consolidate its position as a large economy and trader before 2020.

The goal of becoming a strong trading nation will "be basically realized" by 2035 and be accomplished in all respects by 2050.

China has remained the world's largest goods exporter and second largest importer for eight straight years.

The market share of its export worldwide has grown from just over 10 percent in 2011 to over 13 percent last year.

China aims to become world-leading cyber power by 2035

China has announced a plan to build itself into a world-leading cyber power by 2035.

For that target, authorities say they will launch a series of strategic projects, seek breakthroughs in key technologies and accelerate the upgrading of the internet.

Efforts will include deeper integration between the internet, big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and manufacturing.

Guidelines will also be introduced for spurring the digital economy.

Meanwhile, the government also promises to strengthen regulation to better protect the safety of private information and online data.

Xi stresses construction, maintenance of rural roads

Chinese President Xi Jinping is stressing the construction and maintenance of rural roads in the country's battle against poverty.

The Chinese president says more can be done to create better-quality roads in rural areas, as well as to maintain them to ensure a better quality of life for farmers.

Meanwhile, Premier Li Keqiang says local- and community-level officials and rural residents should be engaged to improve road construction, maintenance and operations.

The suggestions have been made at a national transport conference which opened on Monday.

Nearly 1.3 million kilometers of rural roads have been built or renovated in China over the past 5-years.

Currently, almost all Chinese towns and villages are accessible on asphalt roads.

CPC unveils regulation to promote transparency in Party affairs

The Communist Party of China (CPC) has published its first regulation on the disclosure of Party affairs.

It requires party organizations to publicize information about their functions and structure as well as the progress they have made in carrying out Party policy and directing economic and social development.

The regulation also specifies which content should be released by Party organizations at different levels.

It also warns that the effort to promote party transparency should not pose a threat to national security and the safety of the people.

Philippine severe storm leaves 335 dead or missing

Over 300 people have been left dead or missing after a severe tropical storm swept the southern Philippines last week.

Tembin triggered massive flash flooding and mudslides in the region. 98-thousand people have spent their Christmas holidays in evacuation centers.

According to the country's disaster management authorities, the casualties occurred as many residents didn't heed the warning to evacuate.

At the weekend before the storm swept through the southern Philippines, powerful tropical storm Kai-Tak also lashed the country, leaving more than 80 people dead or missing.

Russia bans opposition leader from running for presidency in 2018

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been denied the right to participate in the 2018 election due to a criminal conviction.

A Russian court found Navalny guilty of embezzlement in February and gave him a five-year suspended sentence.

Navalny has denied the accusation.

Navalny announced his intention late last year to run for the presidency in 2018.

The election is scheduled for March 18 next year.

Iranian researcher gets death sentence over spying for Israel's Mossad

Iran's Supreme Court has approved the death sentence on an Iranian researcher over spying for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency.

Ahmad Reza Jajali, who has been in prison since April of last year, has admitted that he had 8 meetings with Mossad agents.

Member of international terrorist organization detained in Kyrgyzstan

A member of an international terrorist organization has been detained in Kyrgyzstan.

The 27-year-old detainee reportedly underwent terrorist training and took an active part in military operations against Syrian government troops.

He arrived in Kyrgyzstan to commit sabotage and subversive actions, while forming new channels for transferring militants to Syria.
