Iranian policeman killed by rioters in ongoing protests

One policeman has reportedly been killed by the rioters in Iran.

The policeman was killed in clashes with protesters in Iran's Najaf Abad city. Three others were injured in a shootout.

According to Iranian media, at least 15 people have been killed in rallies across the country in protests against the government.

Most Iranian officials have blamed foreign intelligence agencies for flaring up the peaceful protests of the people.

The Russian Foreign Ministry says that Moscow hopes the ongoing mass protests in Iran will not develop into severe violence and that any external interference with the situation is unacceptable.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected comments by Iran's President Hassan Rouhani who blamed Israel for standing behind the protests in Iran.

Over 20 killed in Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen's market

At least 20 civilians were reportedly killed Monday when the Saudi-led coalition launched a series of airstrikes on a crowded market and a petrol station in Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.

The attacks also wounded dozens of others.

A medic at the Hodeidah hospital said more deaths are likely because many of the injured are in critical condition.

Rescue teams are still searching for possible survivors.

The attack was the latest in a series of airstrikes conducted by the U.S.-backed Saudi-led coalition air force since the start of the war in Yemen three years ago.

The war has killed over 10-thousand Yemenis, mostly children, and displaced 3 million others.

Syria's Assad orders partial ministerial reshuffle

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly ordered a ministerial reshuffle.

According to Syrian news agency SANA, Assad appointed General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub as the new defense minister, replacing Fahd Jassem al-Freij, who had held the position since 2012.

The president also appointed Emad Sara, who was the head of the state TV, as the new information minister.

Muhammad Mazen Ali Youssef was named as minister of industry.

The ministerial reshuffle comes at a time when Syrian government troops and allied forces have been gaining more ground against terrorists over the past two years.

SANA didn't comment on the reasons behind the replacements.

India and Pakistan exchange lists of nuclear facilities

The Indian and Pakistani governments have exchanged their latest lists of their nuclear installations.

India's foreign ministry says the move has been made through diplomatic channels simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad.

This is part of a bilateral agreement the two hostile neighbors have to try to prevent attacks on nuclear facilities.

This marks the 27th time the two sides have exchanged their lists since 1992, one year after their agreement came into force.

Tourism booming during China's New Year's Day holiday

Official data show over 130 million Chinese tourists travelled across the country during the New Year's Day weekend.

They brought about 75 billion yuan in revenue to the country's tourism sector.

Both the tourist flow and the tourism revenue have registered an over 11 percent increase year on year.

Figures from the National Tourism Administration are also suggesting rural tourism and snow and ice-related tourism were popular among tourists.

China starts collecting environment tax

China has started collecting an environment tax to cut pollutant discharge.

A new Environmental Protection Tax Law took effect on January 1.

This is China's first tax designed for environmental protection, which will help establish a green financial and taxation system to replace the "pollutant discharge fee" system.

China had collected the fee since 1979.

However, some local governments exploited loopholes and exempted enterprises that were otherwise big contributors to fiscal revenue.

The Environmental Protection Tax Law targets enterprises and public institutions that discharge listed pollutants directly into the environment.

Under the law companies will pay taxes for producing noise, air and water pollutants as well as solid waste.
