Definition

Giving information to another person that will more than likely disappoint them; to ruin someone's happy moment; to destroy someone's expectations.

Origin:

This phrase might possibly derive its figurative meaning from how a person's enjoyment levels of literally blowing bubbles can abruptly change when their bubbles burst. The phrase dates back to at least 1860.

A

Children are the ones who often burst adults' bubbles when they are lying.

大人撒谎时,戳穿他们的往往是孩子们。

B

Don't burst her bubble on death bed and please let her rest in peace. She has always believed that you are her ex-lover who deserted her 50 years ago.

请不要在临终前打破她的幻想,让她安息吧。她一直认为你就是那个50年前离她而去的爱人。

C

I hate to burst his bubble, but that really is not a good idea.
