Xi Jinping concludes inspection tour in Sichuan


President Xi Jinping has wrapped up his four-day inspection tour in Sichuan Province.


During his tour, he vowed that China will continue to revitalize rural areas, ensuring that nobody will be left behind in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.


His itinerary included visits to the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Wenchuan County, the site of an 8.0-magnitude earthquake a decade ago, as well as an electronics manufacturing firm in Chengdu and the Chengdu Tianfu Free Trade Zone.


The president has stressed the development of the real economy and high-quality manufacturing, urging enterprises to improve their ability to innovate and compete in the global market.


On his last day of the tour, Xi Jinping listened to briefings by provincial officials on their work and plans, encouraging them to further boost the economy and social progress in the region.


Chinese Premier stresses people's well-being in Spring Festival inspection


Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has stressed efforts to eradicate poverty and improve people's well-being during an inspection in Jilin Province ahead of Spring Festival.


Li Keqiang made an inspection tour on Monday and Tuesday and extended Lunar New Year greetings to the local residents.

The premier acknowledged the progress in social and economic development that has been made in Jilin, calling for more work to be done to revitalize the northeastern rust belt.


Former senior CPC publicity official expelled from party, public office


A former deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee has been expelled from the Party for multiple offenses, including taking bribes.


Lu Wei, also a former head of the Cyberspace Administration of China, has also been dismissed from public office.


An investigation found that Lu had severely violated the Party's political discipline and rules.


His misconduct include refusing to implement Party decisions and policies, obstructing discipline inspections and abusing power.


China launches campaign to regulate online performers


The Chinese Ministry of Culture has launched a national campaign to further regulate the country's online performance market.


Online performance includes live streaming and recorded performances.


The campaign will inspect online performance platforms and organizations in search of those that stream harmful or fake information.


Infringement of juvenile rights and spreading unhealthy and inappropriate content to juveniles will also be punished.


The ministry is requiring agencies to set up real-name registration of online performers and verify their identities.


Investigators collect debris from Russian passenger plane crash site


Hundreds of emergency workers have continued their search through snow for remains of victims and debris from a Russian passenger plane that crashed on Sunday, killing all 71 people on board.


Investigators say the crash may have been caused by the pilots' failure to activate heating for pressure measurement equipment, resulting in flawed speed data.


The pilots put the plane on autopilot after taking off from Moscow but took manual controls back when they saw clashing speed data.


The plane plummeted into a snowy field six minutes after takeoff, killing the 65 passengers and six crew.


Germany's SDP leader Martin Schulz resigns


German Social Democrat leader Martin Schulz has resigned from his party post.


Schulz is expected to be replaced by Andrea Nahles as the new Party leader, pending an election later in April.


Hamburg's First Mayor Olaf Scholz will provisionally take over the position of party leader until the April election.


Martin Schulz's resignation follows his announcement that he was abandoning plans to become the new German foreign minister in a new government.


Both Olaf Scholz and Andrea Nahles say they will now both focus their efforts on pushing for passage of the coalition agreement which was drafted earlier this month.


Israeli police recommend charging PM with bribery, fraud


Israeli police have recommended a series of charges against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in two separate corruption cases.


The charges include bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.

But Netanyahu called the allegations baseless and vowed to remain in office.


The police have handed over their recommendation to Israel's Attorney General, who will decide whether to press charges against Netanyahu.


CRI and Air China enter agreement over in-flight entertainment services


China Radio International and Air China have agreed to cooperate on in-flight broadcast and internet services.


CRI has entered an agreement with the China National Aviation Holding Company, the parent company of Air China.


Under the deal, CRI will provide news and information, entertainment programs, and new media productions for Air China's flights.


The deal will leverage CRI's broadcasting in 65 languages to serve Air China's international passengers, especially in flights along the Belt and Road routes.


CRI's media products will soon be available on Air China's flight routes linking more than 1,300 destinations across 190 countries and regions.
