China acts on trial reform of IPR cases

Chinese authorities have unveiled new guidelines for improving the procedures surrounding intellectual property rights cases.

The new document is China's first one specially designed for IPR trials.

Under the new rules, trials in IPR cases have to take into account international conditions, with the document saying that IPR infringement must be curbed.

Detailed measures include the creation of a compensation system for IPR infringement, increasing the number of IPR courts and recruiting more talent into the sector.

IPR courts are currently established in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Over the past five years, around one-in-five IPR cases accepted by Chinese courts have involved foreign parties, mostly from the US and the European Union.

Chinese courts accepted over 200-thousand IPR cases last year, a 40 percent increase compared with 2016.

China exposes live-streaming porn

China's anti-pornography office has announced that 29 live-streaming platforms have been investigated and punished for spreading pornography since the end of last year.

Some of the suspects may face criminal charges.

Live streaming has emerged in China in recent years; however, problems such as obscenity, violence and other inappropriate content have surfaced as the market has grown.

Chinese authorities have intensified efforts to crack down on illegal online activity.

Russia says IOC reinstates its membership

Russia says its Olympic membership has been restored by the International Olympic Committee, following its suspension from Pyeongchang 2018.

The IOC suspended Russia's membership on December 5, 2017 because of a major doping scandal.

Russian athletes who tested negative were allowed to compete in the Olympics in uniforms bearing the title "Olympic Athlete from Russia."

The doping scandal was brought to light by a report from the World Anti-Doping Agency, which accused Russian athletes of widespread doping.

The scandal prevented a large number of Russian athletes and officials from participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympics.
