Senior Chinese official stresses high-quality development
Chinese vice premier Han Zheng has called for more efforts to promote high-quality development.
Addressing the ongoing China Development Forum, Han attached great importance to pushing forward supply-side structural reform and accelerating the building of a modernized economy.
He suggested efforts should also be made to prevent and defuse major risks, increase investment in innovation and implement high-level trade and investment liberalization and facilitation policies.
The three-day forum brought together nearly 30 globally renowned scholars, including seven Nobel laureates, and more than 80 executives of Fortune Global 500 firms.
China to further optimize tax structure: minister
Finance minister Liu Kun says China will optimize its taxation system and structure.
The minister says value-added tax rates will see further adjustments, and those in sectors including manufacturing and transportation will be lowered.
Official data shows a total of 920 billion yuan was saved last year via China's ongoing reform to replace business tax with value-added tax.
China will also reform its personal income tax system to increase tax breaks in relation to spending on children's education and critical illness.

The first innovation and starts-up center of Xiongan New Area has opened in Hebei Province.
The center is designed to support projects related to new energy, new materials, environmental protection and more.
Eleven companies have signed up with the center, focusing on developing AI, internet security, virtual reality, retailing, and online education.
Xiongan New Area was established in April of last year.
It is a new economic zone about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing.

China's unmanned submersible "Hailong III" has completed its first deep sea test in the western Pacific Ocean.
The submersible entered a deep sea area from the Chinese research vessel Ocean No. 1 on Sunday morning.
"Hailong III" is able to dive to a depth of 6,000 meters.
It completed a 400-meter shallow sea test in the western Pacific on Saturday.
Saudi says one killed, two injured in Houthis' missile attack
Saudi officials say one person is killed and two others wounded by a ballistic missile fired from Yemen by Houthi militia.
Saudi civil defense says the missile's shrapnel fell on a home in Riyadh late Sunday.
The dead and the wounded are all from Egypt.
This is not the first time that Houthis have fired missiles toward Riyadh.
In November last year, Saudi air defense shot down a ballistic missile at Riyadh international airport.
Ex-Catalan leader Puigdemont detained in Germany
Former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont has been detained in Germany.
A police spokesperson in Germany's Flensburg confirmed his arrest on Sunday.
Puigdemont has been in exile in Belgium since leaving Spain last October in order to avoid charges of sedition and rebellion.
The arrest happened shortly after he crossed from Denmark into Germany en-route to Belgium in a car, after attending a conference in the Finnish capital of Helsinki.
The detention came after the Spanish Supreme Court on Friday reactivated a European detention order for Puigdemont and six other Catalan separatist leaders.
Nigerian girls reunited with families after kidnapping
Schoolgirls kidnapped by the Boko Haram militant group in northeastern Nigeria have been reunited with their families.
The reunions come after they spent nearly five weeks in captivity.
The 105 girls arrived on Sunday in the town of Dapchi. They were snatched on February 19 at a boarding school.
After their release on Wednesday they had spent three days in the national capital Abuja where they were greeted by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The event sees giant fancy kites in shapes of super heroes taking to the sky in Hua Hin.
