Wellington just has to dance!

On Thursday 29 October and Friday 30 October, the Wellington Theatre hosted the biggest Have-to-Dance celebration to date. I choose the word celebration specifically because what we saw on stage was much more than just a competition. It was the culmination of weeks of hard work, determination, creativity, nerves, tears, teamwork and, yes, plenty of fun, too. And in the end, it resulted in one of the best dance performances we have experienced at Wellington.

Pupils from years 3 to 13 took to the stage, performing a diverse range of dances. There was traditional Chinese, Indian, hip-hop, K-pop, ballet, fusion, contemporary, Latin and show jazz. This year's revue reflected the rich diversity of our school and underscored the fact that dance truly is for everyone.

Dance is a basic human activity for every age, gender, culture, economic class and ability. It connects us to the rhythm of life — all its highs, lows and in-betweens. And it is life that dance truly celebrates, the spark and drive to create and thrive regardless of the circumstances. Dance is resilience, affirmation and togetherness.

Finally, Have-to-Dance has kicked off a school year that promises more dance events than ever before. Get ready for original Broadway choreography in Chicago, student choreography in A Budget Cinderella, pop-up dance performances, dance CCAs and academies, a growing dance scholar program and two full evening dance shows. Dance is thriving at Wellington, and we are a truly excited about the year to come!

We are all deeply proud of all who took to the stage, and I would like to extend special congratulations to the pupils who won this year's Have-to-Dance performance.
