In case you missed it: November
From dance performances and dentist visits to footy matches to fashion shows, it was never a dull moment in November. Here is our highlight reel for the month.
Autumn Dance Showcase
In our second annual Autumn Dance Showcase, our Dance Scholars and Have-to-Dance contest winners took to the stage to perform a dazzling variety of dance styles. Whether it was traditional Chinese, hip hop to jazz to contemporary — performances were as diverse as our wonderful Wellington Community itself.
Bright smiles at the Early Years Centre
On 2 November, the dental team from Raffles hospital paid our Early Years Centre a visit. They held a fun and interactive workshop to teach our youngest pupils how to keep their smiles shining bright with good dental hygiene.
A passion for comparative fashion
On 4 November, our Dual Language Pathway became a Dual Language Runway. Wellington mums strutted in various styles of qipao dress throughout the years. Meanwhile, an explanation of Western clothing from the same era was displayed on a screen. Fashion proved to be a fun way to build vocabulary, explore comparative cultures and involve parents in our learning activities.
Houses Hopetoun and Stanley faced off on 18 November for the final round of the Senior School house debate competition. Team Stanley prevailed, delivering compelling arguments in favour of strong international borders and, more importantly, points toward the coveted House Cup. Today the competition continued with our Upper Prep pupils. Lynedoch faced off against Hopetoun. Lynedoch prevailed, arguing in favour of the proposition "This house would use force to make peace."
World Cup, Wellington style
On 20 November, we held our first-ever Wellington World Cup Football Festival. This was an action-packed, football-filled day featuring our Lower Prep House finals and friendlies with the Wellington Lions home squad. Welly the Lion and our Wellington Lions Cheer Squad also made their debut appearances. The day culminated in an action-packed match between our parents and teachers. The teachers clinched it, 5-0! It was good fun for a great cause. Proceeds from ticket sales went to Stepping Stones, a charity that supports local schools in need here in Shanghai.
DukeBox is on the beat
2022-23 marks the inaugural year for Duke Box, your go-to source Wellington news by the pupils, for the pupils. Run by Seniors under the tagline “delivering you a slice of campus life”, this new media outlet has its finger on the pulse with their exclusive coverage of our new baking CCA in the Pre-Prep dining hall. Be on the lookout for more of their upcoming reports!
House Volleyball Tournament
Finally, the House Cup remains very much in play as our year 4 and 5 pupils took to the court in our house volleyball tournament. It was a thrilling round of competition scores nail-bitingly close in the final standings. Team Hill dominated, scoring 32 points for its house, nipping at their heels was Combermere with 30 and Orange with 29.
