Part 1. Overall Mobile Phone Market in China
December domestic mobile phone shipments reached 42.6 million units, down 32.5 percent year over year. 90 new models were released in the month, down 28.6 percent year-over-year (y/y).
Over the past 12 months, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 491.1 million units and number of new model release reached 1054, down 12.3 percent and 27.1 percent y/y respectively.

Part 2. Development of 4G Mobile Phones
December domestic 4G mobile phone shipments were 40.4 million units, down 33.1 percent y/y, and represented 94.8 percent of the total shipments. 57 new 4G models were released in the month, down 46.7 percent y/y, accounting for 63.3 percent of the total new models this month.
In 2017, domestic 4G mobile phone shipments were 462.3 million units, down 11.0 percent y/y, and represented 94.1 percent of the total shipments. The total number of new model release reached 810, down 34.6 percent y/y, accounting for 76.9 percent of the total new model release.
Of the total 4G mobile phone shipments this month, 89.4 percent of which were all networks supported, and 98.8%, 99.5%, 98.4%, 89.6% of the 4G mobile phones shipped supported FDD LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, cdma2000 network, respectively.
Part 3. Local and MNC Brands of Mobile Phones
December mobile phone shipments by the local brands reached 35.6 million units, down 36.4 percent y/y, accounting for 83.5 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments. Number of new models released by the local brands (83 units) dropped by 31.4 percent y/y, and represented 92.2 percent of the total number of new model release in the month.
Mobile phone shipment volume for year 2017 by the local brands reached 435.9 million units, down 12.4 percent y/y, and accounted for 88.8 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments. Number of new models released by the local brands (985 units) declined by 28.7 percent y/y, and represented 93.5 percent of the total number of new model release in the domestic market.

Part 4. Development of Smart Phones
December smart phone shipments were 40.4 million units, down 33.2 percent y/y, and accounted for 94.7 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments in the month. Of the total smart phone shipments, 31.9 million units were Android-based.
Over the past 12 months, smart phone shipments were 461.4 million units, down 11.6 percent y/y, and represented 93.9 percent of domestic mobile phone shipments. Of the total smart phone shipments, 382.5 million units were Android-based.
In December, 58 new smart phone models were released, including 53 Android smart phones. Number of new smart phones released in the month was down 45.8 percent y/y, and accounted for 64.4 percent of the number of new release.
Number of new model release for year 2017 reached 799, including 623 Android smart phones, down 35.8 percent y/y, and represented 75.8 percent of the total number of new model release.
