Part 1. Overall Mobile Phone Market in China

August domestic mobile phone shipments reached 32.6 million units, down 20.9 percent year over year. 55 new models were released in the month, down 38.9 percent year-over-year (y/y).

Over the past 8 months, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 265.6 million units and number of new model release reached 544, down 17.7 percent and 22.3 percent y/y respectively.

Part 2. Development of 4G Mobile Phones

August domestic 4G mobile phone shipments were 30.6 million units, down 17.2 percent y/y, and represented 93.9 percent of the total shipments. 40 new 4G models were released in the month, down 39.4 percent y/y, accounting for 72.7 percent of the total new models this month.

Over the past 8 months, domestic 4G mobile phone shipments were 250.8 million units, down 17.5 percent y/y, and represented 94.4 percent of the total shipments. The total number of new model release reached 416, down 25.8 percent y/y, accounting for 76.5 percent of the total new model release.

Part 3. Local and MNC Brands of Mobile Phones

August mobile phone shipments by the local brands reached 30.3 million units, down 20.6 percent y/y, accounting for 92.8 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments. Number of new models released by the local brands (52 units) decreased by 33.3 percent y/y, and represented 94.5 percent of the total number of new model release in the month.

Mobile phone shipment volume for year 2018 by the local brands reached 241.1 million units, down 17.8 percent y/y, and accounted for 90.7 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments. Number of new models released by the local brands (499 units) decreased by 23.5 percent y/y, and represented 91.7 percent of the total number of new model release in the domestic market.

Part 4. Development of Smart Phones

August smart phone shipments were 30.4 million units, down 17.4 percent y/y, and accounted for 93.4 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments in the month. Over the past 8 months, smart phone shipments were 250.1 million units, down 17.5 percent y/y, and represented 94.1 percent of domestic mobile phone shipments.

In August, 40 new smart phone models were released, down 40.3 percent y/y, and accounted for 72.7 percent of the number of new release. Over the past 8 months,416 new smart phone models were released, down 24.2 percent y/y, and accounted for 76.5 percent of the number of new release.
