Part 1. Overall Mobile Phone Market in China

September domestic mobile phone shipments reached 36.2 million units, down 7.1 percent year over year. 90 new models were released in the month, down 1.1 percent year-over-year (y/y).

Over the past 9 months, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 287.4 million units and number of new model release reached 433, down 5.7 percent and 31.8 percent y/y respectively.

Part 2. Development of 4G Mobile Phones

September domestic 4G mobile phone shipments were 34.3 million units, down 7.4 percent y/y, and represented 94.6 percent of the total shipments. 59 new 4G models were released in the month, down 18.1 percent y/y, accounting for 65.6 percent of the total new models this month.

Over the past 9 months, domestic 4G mobile phone shipments were 274.6 million units, down 4.6 percent y/y, and represented 95.5 percent of the total shipments. The total number of new model release reached 320, down 34.4 percent y/y, accounting for 73.9 percent of the total new model release.

Part 3. Local and MNC Brands of Mobile Phones

September mobile phone shipments by the local brands reached 30.6 million units, down 11.2 percent y/y, accounting for 84.5 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments. Number of new models released by the local brands (80 units) decreased by 2.4 percent y/y, and represented 88.9 percent of the total number of new model release in the month.

Mobile phone shipment volume for year 2019 by the local brands reached 263.9 million units, down 4.2 percent y/y, and accounted for 91.8 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments. Number of new models released by the local brands (384 units) decreased by 33.9 percent y/y, and represented 88.7 percent of the total number of new model release in the domestic market.

Part 4. Development of Smart Phones

September smart phone shipments were 34.7 million units, down 5.7 percent y/y, and accounted for 95.7 percent of the domestic mobile phone shipments in the month. Over the past 9 months, smart phone shipments were 274.7 million units, down 4.2 percent y/y, and represented 95.6 percent of domestic mobile phone shipments.

In September, 68 new smart phone models were released, down 4.2 percent y/y, and accounted for 75.6 percent of the number of new release. Over the past 9 months, 332 new smart phone models were released, down 31.8 percent y/y, and accounted for 76.7 percent of the number of new release.
