This lecture concerns new kinds of Muslim public figures that have arisenwithin the context of the media revolution in Africa. Such Muslim publicintellectual are those who communicate about Islam or as Muslims to the publicor various publics in Africa and sometimes beyond. This communication can beoral or written communication and might be face-to-face communication insermons and teaching or mass-mediated via television, radio, audiocassette,video, DVD, the internet or social media and includes newspaper columnists,bloggers, activists, preachers, and various media stars.
